Hey, Im new to the forum. I used to snowmobile a lot when i was younger, and have ridden in New Hampshire and Maine.
Even though snowmobiling is my favorite motor sport, i have not had the ability to go for a while. To my delight i found a place in Lakewood (action rentals) that will rent sleds/trailers.
Being a Bellingham, resident my first thought is to go up to Mt Baker, but Im not sure which Sno-park i should go to.
I was going to go to Glacier, But Mt Baker NRA, seems to make the most since if i have to return the sleds in lakewood the same day.
Is one better than the other?
I will be renting a sled for my newbie girlfriend if that makes a difference.
Should i be looking at other places besides baker?
It would have to be 2-3 hrs to lakewood.
Anyone here head up there on mondays? (im thinking the second of febuary)
I cant wait :face-icon-small-coo

Make SURE you carry beacons....2 way radio...AND a GPS...Baker's weather is VERY unpredicatable!!

I'm not that busy this time on year, I will take any excuse to ride.
Let me know where you want to go. I know Baker, Glacier creek, Canyon creek, any many areas.Been riding along time. Be happy to show you around.

Tar, good for you to offer guiding service to these people, after reading their post I was thinking this could turn out bad. With the low snow/ ice conditions we have currently, and not being familiar with the areas, let's just say there's potential for problems. Hopefully we will get some new snow by then and everybody will have some good times. To the original poster, take Tar up on the guide service, you'll have a much better experience.

I was out last week it was very icy, nasty, slick.
Not much snow. Maybe we will get some more.

I may have to take you up on that offer.
Would I be better off waiting untill we get some rain?
longterm forecast shows rain on the 3rd, so im thinking the 10th?
Do any places around here rent avalance beacons?

Baker NRA is the best place to ride in the northwest but you have to follow basic rules for baker nra.
1) never ride up there when it's not clear and sunny i had weather move in took over 2 hours to get down and i know the mountain very well
2) never ride very far up the mountain when it's icy it's possible to loose a sled or even get in a spot were you bail and can't stop slidding
3) never ride very far up the mountain unless your with someone that knows the mountain (cravass danger)
4) know the avi danger if it's icy now then we get a good dump the avi danger will be super high

If you with your girl and she is a rookie you will be stuck at the bottom of the mountain which is still fun if you have a guide then maybe you can build her confidence to take her up higher on a safer route the views are amazing good luck.

X2.... Been riding this area for more than a decade. Take TAR up on his offer you need the help. Baker can be very unforgiving & sometimes worse.
