My riding buddy and I rented a bike recently to see what the craze is all about. We trailered it out to a favorite riding spot and took turns riding it. One of the times we were getting ready to swap, it just wouldn't start back up. This was probably around 11-11:30 or so after getting riding at around 8:30-9.
We looked over all the wiring we could access (only had the basic tools for sled repairs, not the right stuff to tear into a dirt bike) and couldn't find anything that would get it to turn over (only elect start). We tried pull starting it with the sled out in the back country, but couldn't get it. So we packed a trail with the sled so we could pull it out to the horse trail. About half way down the horse trail coming out of the back country we got it to fire up pull starting it (probably 1:30-2:00 by this time). We rode it back out, got it on the trailer, and returned it. The owner wasn't there to talk to, but we asked his helper to have him give us a call to discuss when he got in. I had also called and left him a message right before we got it to start by pull starting it to ask what else we could try.
Since then, we have not heard from him and we have tried calling a couple times. It has been two days now and still nothing.
It is a bit annoying that we don't get the courtesy of a call back to at least discuss the situation. We spent 2-3 hours messing with a rented machine that broke down trying to get it out of the mountains and lost at least a few hours of riding. The guy was very friendly and seemed like a great guy. Don't know if he's just been busy or thinks we are just trying to get out of picking up the check, but he has been quiet..
I think a half day refund is in order myself, or maybe a half price rental next time or something... Am I wrong here? What would you guys do? Should I just forget it and move on?
As far as the bike goes, loved it. Was a lot of fun and something I'd definitely do again. Don't know that I'd trade my sled in just yet, this was a whole different kind of riding experience and not nearly as challenging, but it was fun. Might be another toy I haul out west with me in the future...
