Removing Clutch buttons

How does one go about removing the buttons on a p-85 clutch in order to change the rollers.

Assuming you are replaceing the buttons as well, drive a screw into them and pull them out. If you can get the screw dead center, you can just keep going until the button comes off with the screw, being cafeul to make sure you only hit the roller, and not the aluminum spider. you can also drive a screwdriver into the side, but have seen the buttons split and leave part of it in the spider. There are also pliers designed to grab them, usually available from HPE and I believe SLP, but got mine years ago so not sure of the availability.

Also add...

If using the old ones again....

And need a shim..

punch out ALUM.. Pop.. or or Fav. BEER Can.. to use as a Shim!

I use a set of pliers like these to grab the pucks.

x2. I've had a couple of different plier based button tools over the years, this simple little one from SLP beats them all hands down. You get even the thin buttons out easy without damaging them.
