I am just wondering how far I am going to have to drive to ride. What is the best area around there? Anyone ridden over here and can give me some comparisons with McCall, Trinities, Baker Creek?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Chris its Erich who used to work at High Mark. I live in Portland. I finally bought a sled again at the very end of the year last season. I have been to Mt Adams a few times before it was all over. For me in NE PDX its about 1.5 hours to Trout Lake as well as St Helens. When are you moving over here?

Erich - I thought you were up there - that is going to work out perfect. How do these areas compare to ours (McCall, Trinities etc.). Good to hear from you! I won't be moving over there until spring 2011 (latest). Just planning ahead. I can't ride this year anyway, bad cornice drop last trip out at the end of last year. Have had two surgerys and have two more to go.

Turtle - I do like to drink so I should adapt ok.... but I'm curious why you say that? Is it that bad over there..riding?...or just in general? I know it is crowded, worked over in that area a few times.

Cheers!
Chris

You'll be disappointed....The only place remotley close to McCall's type of riding and terrain may be Diamond Lake....or Halfway....Sorry about your loss but the greenies are very abundant and active in OR and WA....and very successfull.

Halfway is 6 hrs from hillsbro. but great riding. My back yard, the west side of OR is nothing like Idaho. Sorry to hear that you have to move.

Seriously though...there is some good riding at Adams and St Helens, but nothing over here is remotely as good as ID. Better have a comfy truck. You'll spend many hours driving to ride. :(

Thanks for all of your replies....and condolences...

I know the Eastern side of the state pretty well, went to school in Lagrande, Elgin and Baker. I got over to Sumpter last year and rode, good times.

Anyway, hope there is something closer than Halfway....that would be a long drive. Looks like Mt. Adams and Diamond Lake are 4 hrs from Hillsboro.

Wow, 4 hrs.... not looking good for the home team.

Cheers!

Mt. Adams should be about a 2hr drive from Hillsboro since it is only a 1.5 hrs for me in Portland.

Adams and Helens are the closest and best places to go. However, like everyone else does I make a few trips East every year to ride Halfway, Mccall, Stanley, etc.

Both Adam and Helens can be just as good depending on the conditions and knowing the good spots like any riding area.

Beware, the snow is wetter/heavier here.
