rekluse or no rekluse

Electric start

If I didn’t have an e-start on my bike i could see the benefit for sure. With—whats the point? I don’t feel like I really stall much and when i do (or just want to holler at a buddy) i just hit the button. No problem. Am i missing some other benefit?

I run a Rekluse in the summer, but not in the winter. My main riding buddy does have one. The KTMs/Huskys run so well right down to idle, that I'm not clutching much at all. Plus of course they have e-start. Loading is really the only time it seems like my buddy has any advantage. Plus, I can bump-start anytime I want--he could too, but only with an allen key.

The three years I ran a snowbike I never once wished I had a rekluse, but there were times I was VERY thankful I had a clutch so I could kill the bike (such as iced brake disk or dumping the bike and wanti g it to stall out).

Same reason I won't use a rekluse in the summer. Too often being able to stall the bike has saved my skin in summer too (extremely tight technical and STEEP uphill and losing traction so must stop but can not get foot to rear brake. No way front brake will stop you from sliding backwards and too narrow for the trick of cranking the bars one direction and rolling backwards to get perpendicular to the fall line. Easy solution is to stall it in gear and rear tire will hold you.

Or simply parking your bike on a hill. Buddies velcroing their front brake lever rather than just putting it in gear. Ha. On snowbikes, timbersleds have so much friction, maybe it's not a problem with those kits. The cmxbk and yeti seem to rotate much easier so might be tough if you need to keep those kits from rolling but have a rekluse.

I never once had to pushstart my snowbike but have heard others doing it. More and more electric start only bikes with no kickstart backups. Guess bringing one of the tiny lithium jumpstarters solves that though.

The Cheap recluse set up where you just remove a few discs will burn out in no time an any bike with power. The full set up and Z star pro (my favourite) for heavy duty application never had a problem. So if you go recluse go full set up or nothing.

I have a Rekluse on my snow bike, but none of my summer bikes.

It’s nice, but I wouldn’t say must have.

The must-have item is the Seat Concepts seat. Stock MX seats will make your *** so sore that you won’t even want to ride the next day.

Never seen the point in the rekluse in the dirt...though I have never used one.

But I bought one for my new to me 2015 KX450F which is about to be my snowbike.

I got the Radius CX will be installing it next week.

I figured if anything it will help prevent unnecessary kick-starts when i bail/tip over in the snow.

Most of the guys I ride dirtbikes with ride KTM or Husky 300 2 strokes with Rekluse and love them. I ride a CR500 in a 250X frame with a regular old stock clutch...no problems no complaints, I love rocks, step up rocks, anything really nasty...500 stock clutch works great for me.

Snow, about 50/50 on the Rekluse set up with the guys I ride with. The ones who have it love it. The guys that don't have it love to talk crap about it but from where I sit I see little to no difference. I ride a 500 steel frame and I just don't know anything else so it seems great to me.

If I had a recluse I would run it, not having one I wouldn't give up my heated grips to get one.

I ran the reluse for about 700 miles last winter with Zero issues. Coming from a clutch user it took a little while to fully appreciate its usefulness.
Loading is a cake walk. Use one hand and walk it in.
ability to walk your bike through rough spots. One handed operation. Other hand can grab the seat and lift/push, ect.
If you have a kick start your leg and foot will love the recluse.
Also as a semi experienced rider i still tip over sometimes when stopping. It just happens. With the recluse you can just bump forward to keep the bike upward easier without fear of killing it. Also i can hop off the bike completely. Keeps the bike upright and it won't die. No need to find neutral first.

For snow its my must have. Dirt its a whatever. wouldn't spend the money for dirt. its nice but not THAT nice.

A question for you snowbikers with a Rekluse, what oil are you running? Joe at Rekluse said to use Rotella T but is that 15w-40 too thick for winter use? I started my ktm with Rekluse and unless it’s really warmed up, will kill the motor going into first gear even with clutch pulled in...and yes the free play is set at 1/8inch..?

I started snow bike riding last winter. The bike (KTM 450 SXF) had the Rekluse and I love it. Bulletproof so far. The bike has a Thumper Racing 520 BB in it now. Interested to see how that will work when I return from Hawaii in December. Kit is a Yeti 129. Love it too.
