Regrets

side impact on a ski is the worst critter to deal with..

just remember 20 miles an hour on one side of your sled going forward and the other side saying no way i kinda like where i am and want to :stick: around...it is kinda a perfect storm..

over the years from all the impacts i have seen the one above always seems to sneak in the most unexpected damage..whether the one side is restrained for a millisecond or wedged the force ends up being very very significant sometimes..
hope ya find possibly some other contributing factor that may lead your dealer to look at a possible warrenty contribution..

Thanks , dealer went to bat for me , even pointed out the fact that there was a visible bubble in the casting; PII said to f'n bad, pay up sucka.

Poman you won't get any support saying anything bad about Polaris here. Your first post should have included a full forensic report with pictures, video, your latest FBI background check, detailed metallurgy analysis, and a note from your Mom. I loved seeing the pics of your obviously well cared for mint condition sled in response.. All the nay sayers expected to see a smoldering pile of wreckage. Did you hit something with a ski or did you get hit from the side?

Go away Matt you bitch and moan in everythread

Although I feel Polaris should have warrantied it, I think Mountainhorse pretty much summed it up.

Yes it's very unfortunate this happened, but never say never...and nothing is impossible. Stranger things have happened, and I don't think this makes Polaris "junk."

no company can warranty collision damage and no company should this is why you should carry insurance.warranty is for mechanical failures, insurance is for collisions. so get as mad as you want at polaris but no one else would cover it either. moral of the story don't depend on you manufacturer to provide collision coverage:face-icon-small-hap

See if gm, ford or Toyota will warranty you truck if you run into a wall....

Bottom line is he hit something and broke something. It sucks, but it happens. It's not up the the manufacturer to listen to stories about what peolple think is a hard hit or what isn't. What are they gonna do? Oh this guy says he hit at 20mph so we'll give him warranty but this guy says 30mph so he's on his own...25mph is our hearsay speed cutoff. Wishful thinking....

i literally just posted a video where i nail a tree with my ski on a climb...not sure of the speed probly 20 though....

lower a arm (zbroz) twisted inside the spindle, bent the tie rod and snapped the heim bolt....my bulkheads fine....just saying it can happen with any sled anytime

I think what Poman posted about was not "Poo pay for my crash damage" or "my Pro won't take a hit" but more why did the bulkhead fail when there is no other suspension damage at all. From the pics it looks like the upper and lower a-arms aren't even tweaked. In my experience the stock a-arms are pretty brittle and actually crack and break pretty easy. I hit a decent sized tree hard with 36" Zbros arms(which are MUCH stronger than stock) and the only damage was to the arm. The tunnel and those little mounting arms were fine. Something's not right here. How did the tunnel break dramatically and an arm that is designed to fail first has no visible damage?

This.

In all honesty the lower A-arm did have a tweak in the rear portion , I did not see it at first , but if you look close it is there.
About 2 K in repairs.

You can come up with scenarios and details till you'd face turns purple.

The bottom line is...if you don't want to break stuff on a sled, don't hit stuff. Sometimes thats easier said than done because....well....welcome to sledding. I've had hits that seemed like nothing mess up lots of stuff, and I've had hits that seemed like everything mess up nothing. Insurance is different from warranty....not saying its right or wrong, but it is what it is.

first off that sucks i'm sorry for ya man
but.... and i'm not trying to kick you when your down
20mph !:face-icon-small-sho dude! just had a buddy throttle his pro into at tree a 5mph and it took a beating (por schmuk:face-icon-small-hap)
to insinuate that the bulk head is a weak point on this chassis is just not true

anyway sorry for ranting just get sick of the generalized exaggerated statments sometimes

Did you check the casting where the steering post goes down to the steering stops? They break there with side ski impacts. The ski gets jammed against the stop and breaks the casting. Take a look to make sure.

Put on darker lenses in your goggles and just ride it.

I tweaked an a-arm on a side impact ricochet of a tree last year, about 10 mph, but bounced off it pretty good. I stayed on the sled and kept going. I wasn't expecting any damage but the lower arm was kinked. I would say these sleds don't like side impacts much. Fortunately my tunnel didn't kink or anything like that.

I was also disgusted Polaris did not warranty my track on my Pro, come on Polaris you made the track too thin and light and it could not handle being harpooned by a '"T Post" Not! ;) I feel for you too, But if Polaris bowed down and warranted things like this they would have to build tank and then they would go broke and we would all have to ride Cats (gag!)

Instantaneous side "glancing blows" don't seem like much... but impart TONS of force into the chassis... a side-glancing blow here ... a-arms do well with compressive forces... and the bulkhead in that direction, with that much force will break. Not much travel... like hitting a tree more squarely

Generally it is not enough side movement in the sled to knock you off... but huge forces involved here.

Imagine a Bruce Lee karate punch... super fast.. but with lots of force.

They will if you can prove that something they did wasn't right.... and that's what he is saying. I have a friend that smashed a brand new truck (his fault)-- and the airbag didn't deploy. They (not his insurance) replaced the truck..... kind of apples to oranges-- but you brought up trucks.
