Regearing a 2005 800 Touring

I'm attempting to gear this thing down a bit since it has clutch slipping problems when the track gets packed with snow, and it destroys belts when that happens.

It currently has a 22T top gear. I bought a 20T gear. I want to make sure that I can just change the top gear without changing the bottom gear. Is that correct?

What is on the bottom? 22/40 is usually a great combo. What helix in the secondary? Steeper is way better as well.
