Reeds

hey guys.
i am doing some mods to my 07 summit 800.
im not doing much. put a new 2.5" paddled track
clutch kit. moved my ecm, some vents.
and going to install some monster boards.nothing too major.

but now ive been looking at some v force reeds or boyesen
but i have a couple buddys that say they are awesome and a couple more that say dont waste my money.
what do you guys think??

Depends... is your throttle response nice and crisp? If so then no. Otherwise yes. I've seen both ways on identically jetted and set up sleds.

Have FUN!

there is nothing wrong with my reeds at all.
just looking for some summer mods to do...
but dont want to waste money on stuff i dont really need.
more savings means more monster stickers which mean more hp haha

Switch out your spacers to 1/4" rather than the stock half inch...v force and boyesens are a waste of money. I have some I can sell if you like

the more i read the more i think its kinda a waste of money...
i have read that i can just buy the boyesen power reeds and install them on my stock cages?? is that worth it?? or would that make any diff at all...

what does changing the spacer do?

On the old cages yeah, you could just add the Boyesen multi-stage reeds and they worked great. They don't have them for the W style reeds on your sled. They do make replacement reed petals but they don't add anything (been there, done that). And spacers are like reeds - some sleds respond better with, some without and some with the 1/4" spacers. Again - if you have nice crisp response now then you're just wasting money but if your reeds are getting tired/chipped then replace with the Boyesen assembly.

Have FUN!

big john was the one who first told me on the 800/800ho, boyesens and v force were a waste of money, but of the 2 the v force was a better choice. Compare a pair of v force with stock...what is the diff? NOTHING! John had found a couple hp gain switching to the 1/4" spacer, the 1/2" brings the reeds too far from the intake and a losse of hp is the result. Now I have never seen the dyno results, but I have been told by others that they have and that it is true. After switching to the smaller spacer, I can say I did notice better responce.

The 07 has no spacers, if your boots and petals are in good shape I wouldn't change them.

I'm using 3/16" spacers on my '07 and it definitely helped throttle response. The 1/4" spacers caused the carbs to rub on the jackshaft cover which is probably why they don't come with them.

boysen

I got the boysen's for one of my 04's. The stock boots where starting to delaminate and I could buy the boysen setup far cheaper than replacing stock with stock. We noticed better better throttle response with the boysen's in conjunction with the narrow spacer.
