Redoubt blew

Ash - Talkeetna's

Road up behind the house tonight, slight hint of ash in the Talkeetna's. This would be around Yoder, Loren's Trail, Larson Lake. More noticable up in the mountains where it had blown in behind the drifts. Conditions are not good, very wind blown. You have to get back in away from the front face to find any riding at all, that and in the valleys and swamps on the way up. All in all not a good report, but as they say, its better than work!

So far at least 2 more eruptions and the ash is headed towards the KP and possibly Anchorage...... cross your fingers that it doesn't go any further than that.

Sounds like it is headed straight at us agian here on the kenai. Just hope it doesn't make it to the mtns. Caribou hills doesn't have any snow so who carres. Just so it does not hit Lost,Turny, and Placer life will be good.

heard this eruption was nasty. My pop called to make sure i didn't go riding south too, he works for the railroad and said their coal train is currently stuck(buried) in an avalanche... if you ride - avoid complex terrain and slopes while its wet.

ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

Division of Air Quality

SITUATION REPORT

AIR QUALITY ADVISORY

Southcentral AK #2009-02

LOCATION(S) IMPACTED: Western Kenai Peninsula including the cities of Clam Gulch, Ninilchik, Homer.

TIME/DATE OF UPDATE: Thursday, March 26, 11:00 AM.

VALID TIME: Valid until Friday, March 27, 11:00 AM.

TIME/DATE OF THE NEXT REPORT: If necessary Friday, March 27, 11:00 AM or unless conditions change significantly and warrant a timelier advisory.

ADVISORY: Small amounts of volcanic ash from eruptions of the Redoubt volcano are possible from Kenai south to Homer beginning this afternoon. It is believed that the ash content of the eruption clouds is low, so any ashfall is expected to be minor. To this point, eruptions appear to have been of short duration with the last one occurring around 9:30am today.

You guys better stay home on Saturday. Don't want to ruin your sleds. The last eruption is going over Anchorage and no ash is expected. The clouds however are being seeded very nicely so here comes the snow. It should be great riding in a week from now so just stay home till then. I will however give an "update" on snow conditions Saturday night when I get home from a recon mission.

Avy

Was that avy at Summit we headed to Placer/Turny turned around rain/snow/garbage didn't want to risk playn with the ash. There was a warning for 45min delay I believe at Summit Lake area due to AVY. I'm sure the way my timing has been it will clear and be sunny for 4hrs with 4ft frsh-

The ash/volcano has screwed me! Just got word that I have to work on Saturday  Looks like i am riding on Sunday. Soldotna and Kenai have been spared the ash this time as well. Heard on the street that Ninilchik south to Homer is BLACK with ash....glad it stayed south.

Just got back inside and you can smell the sulfer pretty bad when the wind is just right. Man i hope we dont see any ash, the sky is pretty dark though....

Mount redoubt had a series of eruptions beginning at 1148 pm thursday
night. Light rain and snow showers are currently moving from the
northern kenai peninsula to the matanuska valley and the anchorage
bowl. Residual ash from the eruptions may fall as the showers
move overhead. Ashfall amounts are expected to be a trace
or less.

This is getting old by now... First I was excited, even thought about buying masks etc, then it took months before it exploded, and now I am just annoyed as it might ruin my plans and riding.
It doesn't appear we had the downfall in Palmer.

Edited at 11am: Yes, slight dusting on the cars for sure...
