can you get the recoil out of a 2013 800 pro without loosening the motor? tell me how if you know how?

Ball hex socket with misc extensions/ wobbly's will get it. Keep band-aids handy and plan on cursing plenty.

Any particular reason you don't want to do it the easy way?
Removing the two mag side motor mount bolts is fairly straightforward.

I think Id have to remove the skid plate to get at the 2 motor mounts

Summit, why are you pulling the recoil if you don't mind me asking? I was going to inspect mine this year, but spent more time scratching my head after finding a hole in the recoil casing with tape covering it (came from the factory like that). Do you have the same thing? Re-covered or left open?

No,something is wrong with it, rope doesn't want to go back in ,and it got caught on something and put a cut in the rope

Tape over the hole helps prevent foreign objects-- screws, rivets heads, etc from falling into recoil housing that could get caught up in stator or flywheel pickups.

Re-install tape over hole on top-- there is also a similar hike on the bottom that you should cover as well.

The big spring was broke inside, just had to heat it up red and rebend the end to make a new hook

I've seen the heat and bend break after a few rides.
I wouldn't chance having to take it apart in the backcountry again for $28. :)

Fixing recoils sucks.
I preventative maintenance mine with synthetic winch line on every sled.

Took one off the other day. Did not lift the motor. Pita . I used regular L allen wrench but cut it to the correct depth. For inbetween the recoil and the frame. I would probably lift the motor next time.
