recoil

Just yanked the 06 summit over for the first time and the thing snapped back and I now have the handle in my hand! Arghhh the rope has now disappeared of course.. How hard to take it apart and get er back in order? how mush crap do I have to pull off to get at it(the recoil)?

I just put a new rope in mine last night. I did it without taking the assembly apart. Heres what I did:

Take off the whole recoil assembly. 4 torx bolts.

Take the little black retainer washer off.

Slide the "paul" and bushing off.

Turn the drum that has the rope coiled in it by hand. It is the white(or greasy black!) part that turns inside the outer shell. Turn it counter clockwise (You may have to turn it many times before the spring starts to get somewhat tight).
Then when you you see the end of the broken rope through the gap between the inner and outer parts, grab it with a pair of needle nose and put it back through the hole it is supposed to go through. Your done unless you want to put a whole new rope in. You can do this as well without taking the whole thing apart as well.

You do not want to have to take the spring out. Ski-doo sells this whole thing as an assembly for good reason. If you want to save over a $100 then this is the only way I know how to doo it without messing with the spring.

Good luck

ok so any trick to recoiling the spring when it goes ...BLAMMO and is now unsprung :)

I just wind it up with my hands. Its a pain but with a little cussing and a few beers you should be able to get it. Good luck.;):beer;

well I used a board with 2 nails in it to wrap the spring around and had it wrapped in like 5 min (worked fantastic) now my only ? is how many revolutions do I turn that baby counter clockwise to tighten up the spring before feeding the rope back in?
