recalls out 08 d8

Karnege

Could we all have some more concrete evidence of the recall details please. I live in BC as well and my dealer knows nothing about your claimed recall on associated topend parts. Thanks.

ok this is what my dealer has done.. im good friends with the dealer so i got a heads up on the(recall/upgrade-whatever you want to call it) polaris has a part# for the d8 that just never ran right, mine wasnt the same as the others i rode with..at the last snow show they went to. they were told that there is a kit with pistons and head plus a reflash for this. they got the part# but polaris hadn`t released it yet. so they have been sitting on it. last week the deal told me they ordered it. from what i think it is.. if your sled ran fine you dont need the kit. mine wasnt as fast as others and harder on fuel.(same sled ,swap riders same sled won across the lake) man i hope this makes sense.

Karnedge & Mike (AKSnowrider) have the info correct. Might be SB 02 but it is now in the hands of dealers-maybe check with the service dept in a larger dealership.

Talked to Chris at Carls last saturday and he said no recalls yet. Didn't know if there would be any except for the reflash they did in early Feb.

It is a new piston and head designed to get better wash towards the exaust port with a reflash and as I understand it enable the jumper wires on the 08's

ok from what I understand, this update topend and reflash on the 08's is only for those that have scuffed pistons..If yours hasnt scuffed pistons or it has any non approved engine mods it is not included. the kit is 09 pistons, head, power valve springs and reflash with 09 programming..As of now I do not know if polaris will allow dealers to do it on just runability problems Ie low elevation bog...every one needs to bug their dealers and see if we cant get enough pressure to make it an across the board deal...I would buy the kit (499 retail) and install myself but you cannot get the kit or reflash without warranty approval first....

AKSnowrider is correct, scuffed set of pistons will get you the work done on Polaris's dime. Dealer needs to check sled and verify the piston issue. Funny how you could have scuffed pistons, sled exibits no runability issues, you get the upgrade. No scuffed pistons with runability issues, no upgrade. Wierd:confused:

I would tend to think that if this isn't an across the board update/recall that Polaris is going to have some p.r. issues myself included. I'm not sure how you can pick and choose sleds given the large number of variables that exist such as: mileage, elevations ridden, engine/machine maintenance and care, etc.

Went in to talk to me dealer yesterday. He said bring my D8 in next week as my parts were ordered already. No talk about scuffed pistons, but they know i was having runibilty issues all last winter. We'll see.

My dealer also ordered the kit for my sled. I woudl assume they are going to open this up to alot more sleds if the owners push hard enough. I would assume they don't want to have an overrun of people doing this all at once. Every sled should be able to get the kit and mapping IMO.

D-8 RECALLS.. "team tip"

I was at my dealer, Xtreme Performance in Longmont CO, and got the latest on this "recall". They call it a "team tip", not an official recall. If your sled has "rough & poor performance" and SCUFFED pistons then they have a fix, new pistons & head. They say not all D-8's need it or get it (or most likely have failed yet). They showed me a very detailed service explanation from Polaris on their computer with pictures of scuffed pistons and why it would or would not be covered. I don't know if mine is OK or not, I am going to take the power valves off to see how my pistons look.

updates done

Had my 08 in got the new pistons head, springs and reflash
I did have piston problems with mine but not until 1800 miles then after rebuild (with 08 same pistons) it never ran good again. So hopefully it's good now.
Sounds a lot leaner now but need to ride it !

Friend had his done and he had no problem at all last year.

MINE GOES ON ON WEDS! dealer said they did one and ..wow it purrrrrs..now some snow that will stay would be nice

Got my d8 done last friday lost motor last April They are recalling for new pistons and heads. Mine needed cyls also. Oil pump cables also are streching. My son's d8 goes in next week his is still running but gets pistons and cyl heads. Both get comps reflashed also.

it`s done ..just got it back home.. need some snow ..but i can tell it`s smoother then before...and i dont know why but it sounds better..more bark ..cant wait for a good drop of fluff

After loosing a piston Saturday the dealer finally checked and has a kit on the way for mine.

recall / reflash

My dealer in central bc canada, has told me this is NOT a recall, they are calling it an update, it is only available to certain areas in canada where they have been having the most amount of trouble, the "update" consists of heads, cylinders, and either a new ecu or another reflash, I know of at least ten in my town that have already been done, and apparently all 08's in this area are getting it. again dealer is adament that it is only select areas in canada getting it. Riding at 2000 - 3500 ft sleds were a problem here last year, over that, seemed better. Any rebuilt engines prior to now, will not have this update, as they have only released it recently. Thats all i know, take it or leave it !!!!!!!!!!!
