Really how much better is the 1000?

Bottom line you have to do way more mods to a KK to get it to run with the 1000. Run either stock or mod them equally and the results will be there. They stopped making the KK for a reason. Taking nothing away from the KK it was King of its time.

I'm sorry where did you get a '03& 1/2 King?

We never made one. We did however make a late season '03 with the 900 and a 159''. This was not a King Cat as the King Cat came with the Attack-20, titanium springs This was a '04 and carb version only at first.

Why do you think you have a '03.5 ?

I know mine is the 03.5 mountain cat. Not officially the KK. But most people understand the KK terminology. And like you said for the most part they are nearly the same sled chassis wise. I believe the old, 03.5 motor was a bit stronger than the 04 and up. Something to do with decompression for ease of starting. Not positive.

Yes, '04 was the start, I have a few magazines where they were testing out the prototypes. These were black with a darker green "KING CAT" in a little different location, And the 1M was smaller in size They used the 159" rails with the 7.125" rear wheels. The windshield was black/white and silver. The exhaust guard was the old style 03 1M design. The pic is in spring of "04 AmSnow mag, And it says where the west is filled with numerous vitamin C KK's, This one is in a stealthy black. Brett Rasmussen gave it an attitude! I would bet the proto had an 03.5 engine with the hotter timing and no decomp. holes. For another 135+cc the M1 better run away from a KK, But I bet it doesn't?

well im dumb haha, why did arctic cat have 2 different mountain chassis's out at the same time???

AC knew the competition wouldn't let them rule the mtns. for long! The Rev was evolving and the new Polaris was about to be released. Both had better suspensions/Rider forward design, And one was going to be much lighter! Next evolution was the Firecat chassis made into a Mtn. specific sled. Thinner and narrower tunnel, Longer travel and better designed front suspension. They saved many dollars of having only a 700 class sled that would darn near do what the 8/900's of that time could do. Then they were working on their own 800/1000 class engine line, While the chassis was proving it's worth! Remember, Each Mfg. knows what the other is doing, They just don't want you to know that! I am sure a 4 stroke turbo will be the next evolution in line, But they better do that one RIGHT!!!! The new '10 M8 will set another std. for mtn. sleds! The next????

Another difference between the King and a MC

Was the 3'' pitch track. It was the first. At only 49 pounds for a 162'' x 1 1/4 lug helped the King get quite light. Titanium springs, a new primary clutch Made the King a head and shoulders pick over the '03 1/2 159''. I had a 900 151'' and it sucked. It felt heavy and the track didn't work. My first ride on the King was at Cooke with at least three feet of cold lightweight snow. It ruled......The Attack-20 left half the trench compared to my buddies new Summit on Nos. It left them all scratching their heads. As the winter went on, I found out that those deep snow conditions were the only place the Attack worked well. Same sled now with a thousand mod engine needed a Chal. Extreme 2.5. It's still the sled to beat. I am quite familiar with the new stuff. There's no dout the "09 M-8 the best sled built for deep snow fun, but I sure like to hit the flipper on the King.

A std. 1M needs to go on a good diet to make it more responsive to rider imput, Once done it will be a whole different sled! The King did indeed set the new std. in '04, In '05 it received the floats up front as an option, In '06 it was std. only in EFI. In late Jan '04 SW did their deep powder challenge, The 159" 1M took the whole thing by just a little over the 151 REV. The KK was right behind but the track sucked in the more compact snow. Kinda funny that the 1M won the uphill snowcross, Must have been a good rider to handle that "Ole Garbage Scowl" The Cat dealer was Mtn. Valley Engine in Wy. The KK had 330 mains, Stock pilots, And needles in mid position. The gearing was changed! It also notes that with the mains jetted down you must run premium (91) min. The 1M 159 EFI was dead stock! The challenge was held in Island Park, ID. Would be fun if they could replicate the event with a '07 M1, M8 in real deep powder! High Time, The A20 weighed 49 lbs. Whats a new 162 PC weigh?

pennys on the dollar

Ive been following this thread since it started, how much better is the 1000, it makes me laugh to hear that my old run down kk is still a machine setting a standard to beat against a 10 to 12 thousand dollar, brand new sled. This is good news for anyone wanting a sled that will keep up. You can buy one all day for not much money. I would switch to a m1000 but I dont want to be disappointed that I spent all that money on something that dosent go much better than what I had. That would suck!!!!!! I weigh 230 lbs, and this sled gets me around great. Its fun to even up the odds a little and throw one of my 130 lbs buddies on this sled then watch it make a mark. this opens a whole new page, because with me on it I can keep up. With a feather weight on it it screams. With my riding buddies this ole orange sled holds a lot of respect. It returns year after year, still to throw down with the best of them. Say what you want, its not worth the money difference for me. I will go to a m1000 when there is nothing left of the king cat...................Keep an eye out for those 1m's they may hand out an azzwhoopin! For pennys on the dollar!!!!lol

Scoop, Just put on a 16 wide track like others on here and see what it can do! That is one of the benefits the KK has over the M1. Others say it works real well, I thought it would rub and slow down trackspeed with all the air movement! But I am wrong on that! A well setup M1 with big BHP will raise fits with the KK, But then again it is only a 862! Kick it up to 975+ and watch out! It isn't the most ergonomically pleasing sled, But it gets the job done.

Mike

A lot of people on here would argue the 16 wide being betterl.. How could more track on the snow possibly be better???? lol. I want a wide pclaw or a20 to stick on my rev or mountain cat

long live the king

Mike, I did have a 16 wide under it, and it worked well until it had no more lugs, I went to a 2 1/4 camo challenger(because it was a good price) I wanted a 16 wide 2.5 but didnt put out the dough to buy it. I also am running a 975(1000 pistons w/rkt head) and it runs good. I ran a sw single and y pipe with it last year but am going to try some twins, with a little more timing this season. I have a forward steer post and a boss seat. This was a huge improvement!!!! I also routed the muffler out the shock tower. I like this sled, I just am keeping my fingers crossed on the efi module, they are worth more than the whole sled. O i forgot it has a muff pot too, the best part of the whole sled.

And I would like Camoplast to make a lightweight 156" track, "The old stand by" With something similar to the PC with aluminum clips instead of steel. Why not make it a wavy edge with little grippers for sidehilling? I bet there is room for improvement on track design? Scoop I bet it runs very well, Question does the Speedwerx pipe make any improvement over the stocker? I have noticed that Speedwerx and D&D are the only two with the high flow "Y" pipe? what is inside the stocker, A baffle of some sort?

sw pipe and y pipe

The sw y pipe and single ran way better than the stocker. The y looks like it might be a little longer, bigger ports and larger exit into the pipe. I like the single pipe, I would like to find a used speedwerx bigbore single and try that, but not to many of these around, unless I buy new. I think i am going to try some slp twins!. I did this once, got mad and sold them, i guess I will try it once more and spend a little more time clutching it!
