08 Chevy Duramax Crew Cab short bed

19-20 MPG highway

11-12 MPG w/ 4 big fellas and a loaded fourplace enclosed

I roll 75-80 MPH most of the time...if I slowed up I would get 2-3 more MPG...guess I'll never know! ;)

07 1500 hemi. air intake, edge chip, exhaust

60mph 18.5 mpg

65 mph 17.5 mph

75mph 13.5 mpg

towning inclosed trailer with sleds11-12 mpg

The MDS on the hemis is a joke the only time mine shuts down to 4 cylinders is going downhill under 65 mph empty

My trucks,

08 GMC Half ton v-6 = 18.5 average
07 Dodge 1ton dually 6speed cummins = 15 dry, 7-10 pulling 17-30,000 lbs.
05 Dodge 1 ton dually Auto Cummins = 16 dry, 13-14 pulling 5-7,000lbs.
95 Ford F250 Stroker Auto = 14 dry
93 Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins manual = 19 dry, 13 pulling 5-7,000lbs.

I have owned three other 7.3 for diesels, and a Duramax. None got better than 16 dry. The 93' Dodge is by far our best mileage truck.

With the increasing Price of Fuel and the need to buy a new Truck I would like to have some real world numbers from people who drive, not just reports.

Looking for that 3/4 and 1 tonne range both gas and diesil motors as well as how you generally drive.

I don't want this to be a Dodge is better than Ford and Chev or vise versa I just want to know how the mileage is for new trucks (back to 2005 ish)

Thanks Guys

If you want a diesel you need to be looking at 2006 or older. The new 2007 stuff is worse off the lot then any previous diesels, but oh they are so much cleaner. (I doubt you care about that) Seriously think about it. Pencil out what a tank full of diesel will cost you, it's not pretty and it's not going to get any better.

I had a 04 PSD and it's real world mileage was 16's in summer mix driving, and 14's in winter. (I did have a auto start so that was used a lot) Pulling a standard 4 place sled trailer open at 70 or less it was in the 13's. Over 70 is was in the 12's. Highest I ever got was 18 something at 60 mph for almost a full tank.

I have a 150 now with a programmer and the last tank I had which was a highway mix and then 4 days of city back and forth to work. Got me 16.9 hand calculated on 87 fuel. Pulling a trailer this past winter to Michigan was 12.4 without the programmer. I haven't towed yet since I have the programmer but I would bet money on it being about 1mpg at least better.

Right now your best money is spent on the gassers unless the trailer is always, 100% hooked up to the hitch. If it's not, the diesel these days just aren't worth it. Sorry but it's true.

I disagree. I've got an '08 F350 crew cab 4x4 with the 5.4 as a work truck and the thing barely breaks 10 mpg empty...it's a pig. Yes you'll pay more for a tank of fuel with a TD, but the mileage makes up for it. Also, I'd bet there are going to be alot of people trying to unload their diesels in the near future so the prices will go down and you'll be able to pick one up closer to the price of a gas rig. Just my opinion

this thread got me thinkin about tradin for the diesel but lookin at trucks last night and that sticker price is still high!!!hope it goes down..

I guess we are all bad drivers. 04 duramax 1 ton crew cab, 17 to 19 empty, 8 to 10 going west with 6 sleds in a 44 foot gooseneck. Same truck going west with a 34 foot gooseneck and 5 sleds, 8 to 10. 07 dodge 3/4 ton mega cab cummins and a 6 speed 20 to 22 empty, 8 to 10 going west with a little light 4 place enclosed. 03 ford 1 ton 7.3 15 to 17 empty, 7.5 to 9 going west pulling V nose haulmark with 5 sleds. All have more power than you need and none of them get crap for mileage. I put all the fuel for a trip on my card and there is almost no difference in mileage. I hear take about great mileage but when we run together it all comes out about the same.

I laugh when I hear anyone claiming mid-teens for highway mileage pulling a 4 place enclosed at highway speeds. Maybe if it's downhill all the way and a 40mph tailwind...

'02 Dmax 4x4, stock except Edge programmer 18mpg at 80mph hwy, 20+mpg at 55-56mph hwy, 13-14mpg towing 3pl enclosed or ski boat (and I'm usually in a hurry to get there!)

'07 Dodge Mega, 5.9L, 6sp, stock except for Bullydog on 90hp, 11k mi on the truck, 18mpg mixed/hwy 75-80mph, haven't towed with it yet. Overhead is reading 19.2-19.5mpg when I'm seeing about 18mpg hand calc.

'05 F150, 5.4L, 2wd, 800# inthe bed all the time, 13mpg avg.
'08 F150, 5.4L, 4wd, 15-16mpg avg, empty bed, 10mpg towing a Jeep on a trailer.

04.5 Cummins Bully dog downloader in performance setting (120+hp added)

Empty with 60-70mph on the highway. Might see 18mpg

with a 4 place open, sleds, gear etc. about 14mpg.

With an enclosed three place with three sleds gear, etc. about 11.5 mpg.

2001 cummins stock 6 speed would get 20 on the highway empty.

Thunder

2008 Dodge 3/4T Mega Cab - 6.7L automatic - Cruise set at 70, Average 18-21 from Glasgow MT to Great Falls MT and back- depending on wind ect.
Same trip with a heavier foot - 90mph i get 14-15

Towing - 70 mph 22 foot 8ft Wide Titan with 9 Yearling bulls (1400 lbs each) - From Great Falls to Billings I got 13 - 14
With a lighter load, 25 ft enclosed wells cargo and 4 sleds i get 14-15 going to the hills
NOTE: This is driving reasonalbe, stick your foot in it, and the mpg goes down.

2006 Dodge 3/4T Mega Cab - 6 speed manual - Very similar to above, not quite as good of milage, did not have all the emission BS and could run high sulfer diesel if needed. Cannot in the 08.

The 6.7 has quite a bit more power then the 5.9 from what i found (both of my trucks are stock). I put on alot of miles fast and when I pull something, it seems to be always very heavy.

2008 Ford Diesel - My dad has one, he hates it. 12-13 mpg and he has 30k on it already. Babies it, puts his foot in it, the same. I do not let him drive my dodge anymore, because I am afraid he would not give it back.

04 F-350 ps 6.0, 4 inch lift, 35X14.5 tires, Edge juice with attitude.
Empty I get 16-18... Depending on whether I keep it at or below 65mph.
Towing 2 place, almost the same.
Towing 4 place enclosed I get about 12-14.
Mileage (can be) better with programmer, but I find myself driving it harder with the extra power.
Try to keep the boost down on the freeway and it really helps mileage, but not always possible.

There's really no big mystery....they all get in the high teens/right around 20 on the highway with light loads, they all get around 15 in town unloaded, and towing you're going to be stuck in that mid-teens range again. Going to depend on driver more than brand, except for the Dodge Hemi's which consistantly have the poorest mileage.

There is no miracle cure if you want to drive a pickup....if the fuel price is making it so that you can't afford it, you are living beyond your means with too much vehicle, and likely have much deeper-rooted money managment issues.

I have a question.....how many of you go by the MPG that the computer displays? I see mileages stated at various speeds so are you just resetting the MPG display and seeing what it tells you at a steady speed??
Reason I ask is those things are quite inaccurate.....'03 6.0 Powerstroke computer says 17.5mph, but do the math and it was barely 13 combined hiway/city no towing.

I know the one in my 4Runner was always 1-2mpg optimistic as well.....I've never heard of one being overly conservative. 4.5mpg out is pretty heavy tho.

That said they are usually consistantly out, so you can use it to quickly guage how different driving habits/conditions affect mileage.

My numbers are hand calculated.

My earlier post of my 06 Dodge is with the mpg thing and the trip meter reset, I checked the math when I filled up and it was accurate, not perfect, but real close. 19.9 avg over 700 miles, various speeds, and various highway, freeway stuff.
