Real World Fuel Mileage

With the increasing Price of Fuel and the need to buy a new Truck I would like to have some real world numbers from people who drive, not just reports.

Looking for that 3/4 and 1 tonne range both gas and diesil motors as well as how you generally drive.

I don't want this to be a Dodge is better than Ford and Chev or vise versa I just want to know how the mileage is for new trucks (back to 2005 ish)

Thanks Guys

I'm not brand loyal but my 2006 Dodge 2500 diesel gets 19 to 20 mpg with a sled deck empty with the sides pushed in. I get about 16 mpg with 2 sleds and 4wd snowy conditions. The worst milage I have seen it with my deck with 2 sleds and my 3 place with everything FULL!!! Extra gas cans, coolers, kids, dogs, ect was 13 mpg.

With no deck on the freeway I have seen 24mpg. My truck is bone stock.

04 6.0 gas chev crew cab best empty headed south with a tail wind 17. around town and normal driving 12. pulling my boat 10

07 dodge mega cab 6 speed manual on the interstate with cruise at 75 i get 20 mpg pulling my 30 foot in closed 5 sleds and 4 guys up rideing cruise set at 67 14.5 to 15 mpg the truck has around 9000 miles so it should get better these numbers are with the edge chip also stock i get 17mpg on hiway and around 12 pulling the trailer good luck

2003 GMC 3/4 ton & 2005 3/4 ton chev

Both duramaxes gmc has bully dog tripple dog programmer, chev has a hypertec programmer. chev is my buddies truck but we fish together so i have been in it a seen what it does.

they both get about 22mpg on the highway empty. thats figuring youre milage out at the pump. the gmc for some reason get a little better milage pulling my boat, 1999 1895 yarcraft storm. gmc gets about 15-17 and the chev gets 14-15mpg.

Gallons per mile!

I have a 06 ford 4x4 crewcab with a V10 average MPG around 10. Pulling 25' v nose trailer with 4 sleds around 7.5. Truck is bone stock and trailer wieght is 3000lbs. On long trips I plan on stopping every 200 miles for fuel as the tank is 29 gallons.

I've got an 07 gmc with a 6.0.. it has active fuel management option so it will shut down 4 cyl when not needed. pretty cool to look down and see it in 4 cyl mode averageing 30-40 mpg with a tailwind.

Last trip to grandjunction and back averaged 18.8 with about 1000 lbs of equipment in the covered bed. Around town, I average just under 15. I don't drive like a punk, but I don't baby it like a raisin either.

towing, I get about 10 to 11, with the enclosed 3 place and about 11-12 with the 4 place open. these are fully loaded

07 ford 4door 3/4 and 1 ton

I have 2 of the ford 6.0 diesels 1 with pipe, edge chip and 35" with auto and 33k on it. 17 empty on the freeway at 70 and driving nice. with a 2 place 14 ish at 70 and with work trailer about 6k stop and go 13.
the other one all stock with edge chip and 20k on it gets 19 @ 70 empty and 15 with a 2 place on it. but only 14 stop and go in town.

'06 Ford 6.0 PS , crew - empty - around 12. Pulling my fifth wheel Raptor that weighs in around 14,000 , about 10.5 keeping it at 65 mph. I get just about the same towing my sleds in in an enclosed as I do empty. Either way , it sucks.

Find an early build '04 Ford 6.0 if you're going Ford, and you will have more power and better gas mileage. At least that was the case with mine. Always got around 15 empty and 12 towing. Wish I had it back - stupid for getting rid of it.

bone stock on both btw

2007 Duramax LMM crew cab short box. Tons of power (not chipped). Get 15 mpg on the interstate and 9 or 10 towing a 4 place enclosed. If I slow down to 65 it adds 2.4 mpg both towing and not towing. Also, lots to do for cheap to increase mileage. Call NADP in Edmonton for info on that.

Good luck.

06 Dodge Cummins, all stock, AT, over 2 days last week i went 700 miles and i reset the gas meter thing, averaged 19.9mpg. That was 70%freeway, a little highway, and a little town. My son just drove it 90 miles all freeway and babied it, he averaged 23.7, so he said, I didnt see the meter thing.

99 GMC, 6-cyl Vortec, 190K extended cab bone stock
21 mpg hwy not towing
18 mpg hwy towing two place with 3rd sled in truck bed.
16 mpg when my wife drives it?????

68 chevy V-8 350 bone stock, 400K (at least) seats 3 on bench seat.
7 mpg (1qt.oil/fill-up) hwy not towing
5 mpg (1.5qt.oil/fill-up) hwy towing 3 place with 4th sled in bed.
.....I guess this is why its been sitting in the backyard for 2 years now.:face-icon-small-ton

2007 dodge 2500 hemi quad cab 6 speed 4x4 short box all stock, empty I get 18-19 mpg(imperial) loaded with 2 sled on the deck (steel) I'm getting 12-13mpg. I drive between 100 and 110 kph on the highway. The truck just started to get the high numbers at 12000km. I di get 12.5 mpg with 2 sleds on the deck, 2 on an open 2 place trailer with all the gear. In town, 10 to 12 mpg but thats to be expected. Hope this helps.

'03 Dodge 1 ton Cummins 6-speed with a 6" lift and 35's. No chip, intake, exhaust, etc. Empty 18-22 mpg at 70 mph depending on wind...really it makes that much difference. Towing 14,000 lbs (excavator and dump trailer) average about 12 mpg as long as it's pretty flat. Towing a 2 place open trailer about 16-17 mpg and towing an enclosed 3 or 4 place about 13 mpg.

I made the mistake of ordering the truck with 3.73 gears for the empty mileage and then lifted it and started towing. Haven't done the calcs on the new ratio but it's way too high for what I'm using it for. I'll be gearing down this summer. If you're buying new, get the 4.10s.

On a side note, anyone know a what the optimum gear ratio is for my combination so I can have good towing power and still retain decent mileage?:beer;

EDIT: Try to find a pre '08 emissions truck as your mileage will be better and you'll have less headaches.
