Whats the real world weight of the '09s??? Full of fuel would be nice too.

Don't quote some magazine claimed weight. Just real weight please.

OK here is what we found.....

These were taken out of the crate and set on our scale. It is a pallet scale.

09' M-8 162" Sno Pro = 487lbs
09' M-1000 162" Sno Pro = 513lbs

Like I said we took them out of the crate so there would be antifreeze in them. We weighed them first to see what they came in at before we convert them to Pro-Lite Sleds.

That sounds a little heavy to me, what was the crated weight supposed to be. Don't you get 500 back from cat if they are 5lbs over the claimed weight. The claimed weight for the sno pro is 463 and that is with a 162 so 487 sounds real high even with antifreeze which won't add much weight. One guy on the forum weighed his new 09 M8 and it was 495 with full oil, coolant, and 2 gallons of gas.

gonna be a lot of 500 dollar rebates if those weights are true

Ya I am thinking I need to get mine on a scale because if it's 487 I am going for my 500.00.

really??? i didnt know you get cash back if your sled was over the claimed. Does that apply to xfires (or all sleds) too?

I found out this only applies to M series.

Also, crated weight refers to weight of crate (tarp and lumber), sled and components from factory correct?

This can't be right.... My '08 153" weighed 485-487# out of the create. This picture shows 495# and that was with 2 gallons of gas in it.

'09s should be 460-465# or less!

The 07 162 was 495# with a splash of gas and a qt of oil when I picked it up from the dealer 2 years ago.

The 08 nightfire was 495# from the same dealer last year.

Weighed them both before we slid them into the trailer.

this will be a thread to remember.........i didnt weigh mine. How are we going to contest this? Directly with the dealer or call Cat?

i doubt this will pan out.

At the Boise snow show they had an 09 M8 153 sp on the scale and it weighed 455 with the boss seat on it. Add the 7.5lbs for the stock seat and you are at 462.5lb which I believe was the listed dry weight of that sled, crated weight will be more due to fluids added from the factory. Add 2 gal of coolant (16lb's) 1 quart of oil for chain case(1lb) 1 gal of oil in the mixing res (10lb) and 11 gal of fuel (88lb) and the total weight of the sled wet is 580.5. Without fuel the weight would be (492.5) Not bad in my view, but hey I'm coming from an 03 Poo escape

580#!!! I had my '08 on a scale topped off with everything as full as I could be and had two spare belts and a heavy tool kit, it was 563#.

If I was one of you guys with the '09 I'd be weighing it very accurately, you could be passing up your $500 rebate!

The '09 153" should be at least 25# lighter then 495#

Don't forget fuel is only 6.216lbs/gal so 11 gallons would be 68lbs not 88lbs so their is 20lbs right there.

Read it and WEEP

About 96 when every body around here had the custom sled bug the subject of honest weight and just how to position 4 cheapo bathroom scales to get true weight was a hot topic of discussion. So.......an acurate high dollar hanging certified scale was purchased and we began weighing sleds.

Twas quite sobering. None of our custom light weight sleds were as light as we envisioned them in our own minds. Some of the guys with other than cats, showed up, blew up... knowing we had screwed with the scale to show their sleds as being heavier than they knew them to be. While weighing some new dealer sleds, the dealer had me drop the scale down and go home.

They are what they are. If you have ever ridden a true 400 lb sled then you don't have to weigh stock sleds anymore, or most custom jobs. A short ride and you know no one is building any 400 lb sleds yet or close.

Every winter I fire up one of my favorite sub 400 lb mtn sleds for a toot around the woods while at the cabin. It says Yamaha ET250 on what's left of the hood.......a long track mountain sled I built for my 8 year old son the winter of 1988. It reminds me that sleds have gotton too heavy, that ski stance is too wide for carving in the trees, what real foot print in deep powder can do...............ok and the short comings of a 250 motor and 2" of suspension.

Wow 478, that's 15lbs over the claimed weight. What will make me mad is if they make this false claim of 465 for my 162 and than it's really 20lbs heavier.

This may help clear some things up..

Found this info in another thred. I think the term people were questioning was "crated" and exactly what it entailed in relation to weight.

The "dry" weight means exactly that...no coolant, shock oil, DD oil, gas, motor oil, no nothing.

The "crate" weight is 479 lbs, meaning no oil or gas but all other fluids. That is the number that Cat is going off of in order to get the $500 from them. They also have a 5lb buffer zone on that to. So...if i were to drain the gallon of oil and 2 gallons of gas from my sled and it were heavier than 484lbs(479+5), then i would be eligible for the money from cat.

But with the gas and oil in there now weighing around 19.5lbs, the sled should be around 475.5lbs with no gas or oil. Which is under the "crate" weight that they are claming.

Hope that cleared things up.
