Maybe I might get a better response as I am in the middle of this job..any trick to feeding the rope from your recoil back up the tube that guides it ?

Bale wire. Down the tube. Tie to rope and pull.

If I remember right, you need about 3 or 4 wraps of pre-tension on the recoil.
I didn't have enough tension on mine the first time and had to take it apart again. Twice!

Great idea thanks! rather pull than push. I am pretty sure mine broke right at the handle

After you get the rope through the handle and tie the knot, heat the knot with a lighter and pull tighter.
I didn't do this the first time and the knot eventually worked its way to the end of the rope and there I was taking it apart again.

I drilled a hole all the way through the handle and tie two nots in mine! ill b dammed if that things gonna pull apart again!

I was sick of this problem so I fab'd up a new tube, slightly larger than original, slides right thru. That's the easiest way because I KNOW I am going to have a recoil problem again.
