looking at new wheelers. Going to Glamis this fall. last time I was there was in 2001 and had a raptor. this time i'm thinking the yfz. I will not ride it around home [Minnesota] much and i'm not really into jumping. I'v heard yhat the 450 is faster then the 700. any info from you guys would help Thanks

The 450 is very fast and the motor is bullet proof. The quad is a bit small for tall guys but it will smoke a raptor and is a kick to ride in the dunes. The raptor has a more laid back power band and lugs more is also a bigger quad.

I have an 07' YFZ450 ... I'm not very good at riding it, but it just feels too small for me.

I haven't ever ridden a Raptor in comparison however.

Personally, I wish I would have gone with the Raptor primarily because it's fuel injected and I could have taken it up in the mountains and ridden it without hassle ... that and it seems like it might have been a better choice for a taller heavier person.

The YFZ seems to me like without a lot of work done to the suspension it's primarily built for MX tracks, and that's about it.

I only have limited seat time on mine in the sand, but it's definatley more fun in the sand than it is in the dirt....wheras, it seems to me like a dirt bike would be an awful lot more fun in the dirt...

I dunno, as I said before, I'm not a very experienced dirt rider at all, but that's been my impression hence far.

the 450 will probably be better for more wide open areas like the dunes and what not, but if you do much tight trail riding where you might need to lug it the raptor will probably be better. the 450 dirt bikes/sport quads are good for speed but do not lug down really at all, they are pretty much go or no go.

p.s. id take a bike in the sand over a quad any day. fun fun fun.

sorry but your 450 will not smoke an equally set up raptor, the 450 is a little quicker at the start but the raptor is FASTER on the top end. so in a drag race you may win, but on a long run you will be behind. maybe your still running against the 660??? i have a full hindle exhaust, k&n and a cobra controller. bullet proof motor on the 450? have you tried to get a piston for it? 2 of my buds have cracked thier piston with only 2 years on them, niether of them could even get a stock compression piston because soooo many are having the same problem they are constantly on back order. the 700 has tons of power, way better, did i say way better, suspension. not to mention efi and reverse! unless your an mx star the 450 suspension is like a rock, and if you stand up at all you'll feel like a giant.

a couple of used ones i seen for sale they stated that they had new pistions. i thought that was odd for a four stroke 2 years old. must be tring to pump as much hp out of that 450 as possible.

I owned a Raptor and if I was to ever buy a sport quad again and I was faced with your two choices. Knowing what little I do about them now I would go with the YFZ for sure. It sure seems like a lot better unit.

gunna have to go with the raptor way better all around bike inscane tourque on the bottem. just like them because it a 700 ( im a big block fan) and love the power. also can build crazy power out of these things. love um

I've never owned either, but rode both at the dunes. If I were to buy one, I'd go with the Raptor just because it feels better. Both have decent power, and are fun to ride. I've seen Raptors beat up on the 450's, and I've seen 450's beat up on the Raptors. It just depends on what you do it, and if you know how to ride it. If your over about 5'5", I'd say go with the Raptor.

The new generation of 450 motors are making the power they are for several reasons. One of which is the slippy piston. The piston life is greatly reduced in favor of greater power. This isnt a ATC185 that can run 20+ years on the same piston. YFZ pistons should be replaced around every 40-50 hours of race time and likely will run double that for a recreational rider.

The YFZ is a nimble machine. Needs some refinement if you are a taller or bigger kid- but thats easy. The Raptor has a much higher center of gravity and rider position- some people like it- personally I dont. Powerwise the potential is there for the Rappy motor to make stoopid power. Reliability- I would rate them equally.

Dont screw around with a 4 wheel P O S...

get a mx bike and have the time of your life!
