why are you getting rid of the sled?

raffles with out dates have always scared me. If you don't sell enough tickets when would the refund happen? What is the exact number of tickets that need to be sold to make the raffle go. is there a date that cancels the raffle if not enough tickets get sold?

sorry to ask the questions but these are answers that might make more people jump on board.

tim

Brad and I sell the sleds every year that we have done this. 1500 is what I would like to sell but if we can get 1250 we can still do the raffle with a small hit to me and Brad and a cut of the donation money. We are setting up a website now so we can do it all through paypal. So if we don't sell enought by lets say November 1 then we just hit the refund button and send everyone back their money. I really think we can get this done and how awesome would it be if we could!!!!!

Doesnt Paypal charge for transactions though? Soif you have to refund that in itself will be a huge charge? Just thinking. . .

Yes not to bad but thats the cost of doing business...are you guys trying to to talk me outta of it....;)

One last word of caution for ya and then I'll STFU, just don't want you to get in trouble. It's illegal to gamble on credit in Montana and I'm pretty sure every other state. Also, it's up to you to verify the age of the contestant to be sure they are 18. You can do the 18 year old thing with a disclaimer i.e... "by purchasing this ticket I'm 18 blah, blah, blah"...but you should probably check to see if you can use paypal for gambling. You will also lose at least $1,000 of your proceeds to paypal fees. There are ways around the gambling on credit thing if you must use paypal but finding another means for collecting the money would probably be worth your time and effort.

with that said,

Here is an idea.

GO to all the western snowmobile shows in the fall and have the sled at a booth that has a win me sign on it.

Sell tickets, and have the drawing at a TS premiere after the shows are done.

Michelle...

It is AWESOME that you and Brad are doing this. Saws can certainly use the proceeds.

All your efforts to do this are going to a good place. More work than just selling it but with a good cause like SAWS... you are spreading good "Sledding JuJu" ..

Also, for those that Don't know... Michelle (Free Agent) is a great source for discount Power Claw tracks, Cat and Poo parts too.

TTT for ya.

I'll be buying some tix.... with a check!

Was already planning on hitting the one's around here. If PPl use their checking accounts to pay then how is that using credit to gamble. I can say MUST use checking account to pay couldn't I?

I'll shoot you a PM.

I hate to sound upposed, but as far as paypal goes, be careful, if they dont like what your doing, they can shut you and all the money down FAST and hold if for a long time, so just be really careful, they can be a PITA to deal with.

otherwise, keep us informed, i want a few tix!

Paypal has a watchful eye on all "Charity" activity and they will audit you hardcore style if they think anything looks suspicious.

There are a lot of great suggestions here, and to do this you would have to setup a completely new and independent account to even have a chance at it. Make sure all your ducks are in a row and that you are following all laws. Plus paypal will track where the money is going to: banks, personal accounts, etc...... If anything looks funny to them it will be trouble, even if you do nothing wrong.

Be prepared, 2 years ago Paypal really stepped up security, and if you plan on taking in 15-20K from this you will definitely have A LOT of eyes on you.

You are better off doing this at shows, or have people mail in there money.

John

Here's an idea....

Just have everyone donate to SAWS or BRC in $20 increments...and who knows...maybe Ed McMahon will come knocking on their door when least expected...oh wait, that won't work either...

OK...instead of Ed and the balloons...Santa shows up Christmas Eve and delivers the sled to some lucky wisher & if the amount donated doesn't hit the target number...just let BRC or SAWS keep it ALL!
