Rabbit ears snow

Jan 14th trip

We tentatively have a trip to Rabbit Ears planned for Jan. 14th - Jan. 17th. How is the snow currently? Has it been warm at elevation?

Rode today, didn't break anything. Found some OK snow, but super bumpy getting there. Hopefully they mark trails better and groom again soon. If you don't know where your going you will get lost.

The local news here in Lincoln NE said last night , that Steamboat ski resort had a 30 " base.. And that it was unheard of to be that low.
Really need more snow

I was just in Crested Butte. They are sitting at like 24" ala 20% of the normal base for this time of the year. Hardly any snow on the mountains surrounded the resort either quite sad.

They are talking about closing Telluride early. They are out of water to make snow with... There is some snow moving through the state today. I am excited like I usually get in November... maybe next month there will enough to ride.

Rode today with the wife, much better than last Monday. Rode alot of fresh, surprised how much untracked we found. Still lots of landmines out there (30" base or so), spoke with a guy from Utah with a broken lower A arm in Dumont lot (Polaris Axys). Ride conservative, parts are easier to replace than bones.

Utah, Nevada, Iowa, Nebraska well represented in lot today as well as some Colorado plates. Everyone's searching for the elusive snow.

Do your snow dance. It's got to happen eventually, right??

Any update since the last few snows? Looked like they got a few storms with good amounts that fell.

The last snow probably produced 2' of heavy snow. The riding this weekend was fun. The stake at the top of Buff Pass is reading 6' so its still low and land mines every where. I glanced off numerous stumps and rocks but luckily didn't damage any thing. Buddy hit a rock and wasn't so lucky. Saw a few damaged sleds limping back to the parking lot. One more big storm should do the trick, seems like about 8' base usually covers most land mines up.

Rode today, Steamboat Ski Area reported 3" this AM and 9" in 48 hrs. Claimed 42" base. Seemed pretty accurate to me.

Fresh untracked snow, pretty much all day. Saw only 1 other group of sleds .Maybe 10 trailers in Muddy Creek lot but did not see Dumont Lake lot. Bumped a couple things but no damage. Definitely best day this season so far. Almost 50 miles maybe 8 on trail.:face-icon-small-hap

in the flat tops . land mines every place this week . drove through the ears on the way to kremmling for arms on Monday. looked about the same only 50x the people

I rode the Ears a week ago, I was worried about snow totals and land mines. I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of snow. They hadn't received new snow in about 5 days and we found untracked, great snow for 4 days in a row. We hit the trees and had no issues finding untouched snow that had not been setup from the sun. I am from Illinois so I may not have a "local" report, but it was worth the 18 hour drive for me. If I lived an hour away and was greedy where I wanted a foot of fresh powder on top I would say the conditions aren't good. In reality they aren't bad. They are below normal for sure, but everything is snow covered and we had a blast. I hope everyone else can do the same.

**They have received a few more feet since I was there, leading me to believe conditions are better.

Ever wonder why there were no tracks in that area? Not to be rude, but this area isn't a hidden gem that you found. There was probably a reason it was untracked and not ridden by locals, you just got lucky you didn't hit anything. I see OOS'ers that don't know the area ride areas I pass by for a reason. Be careful as I have seen lots of busted up sleds that same week you were there. I actually had to cross areas that the cat track had dirt.

Lost helmet at rabbit ears

My nephew left his black 509 altitude helmet and goggles on the back of a truck Saturday feb 17 at the big parking lot where mile high meet n greet was. If found please contact ken@ocelco.com

Update from the Dumont Lake parking lot:
It’s snowing hard. We rode up to buff pass this morning and had at or near whiteout conditions all afternoon. Tomorrow will be the day to send it!
