Quickdrive durability

Hey

I snowchecked a pro rmk 163 2.6 quickdrive and im debating whether i should buy and carry an extra quickdrive in my tunnel bag or not.

Is it worth it in 2017 or it's just as resistant as a chaincase ?

Thx

I haven't carried an extra QD belt since I rode a 2013. There is no need, the QD is easily as durable as the chaincase. Usually if the belt fails it just looses teeth anyway so you can almost always ride out. If your chaincase fails, you are screwed.

I am on my 3rd QD sled and wouldn't have it any other way.

I keep a extra QD belt in the trailer, but haven't carried it on the sled

i always carried an extra belt just in case. never needed it. only adds maybe a pound? to the sled.
well worth it if you need it. imo

i will be converting the chaincase on my sks to the tki belt drive and will be carrying an extra belt

If you jump big or turbo it, you will probably want a spare handy but it's not really necessary to carry it with you

Yeah leaving it in the truck or trailer I feel is fine. It isn't a weight addition thing to me but space. I don't like a ton of bags.

I bring one with me, I never needed it but a couple friends did on the mountain. On there 14-15 pro.. me and a buddy have spair for or axys but no one has needed one yet. He has 2400 miles on his axys no q drive issues at all.

I carried an extra one for my 14, never needed it, and Ive never seen one fail so bad you couldnt still ride it. My 16 3" had the chaincase, My 17 has the quick drive. I have no plans to buy a spare belt. Eric

X2 the post 2013 belts have been much better. No need to carry on the sled. Buy an aftermarket belt drive guard and you are good to go.

X3!!! But I also have a buddy that carries one with him!! ha ha

I bought a spare for my 16 axys and ride moderately aggressive, small drops, power on landings... no problems fwiw the spare wasn't necessary yet

Good to have one...

If you can store it on the sled in the proper way...

The Drive since 2015 seems to be pretty durable... and as noted above... most the failures I've seen or heard of are stripped teeth on the belt.... I've heard of only one Broken belt on the AXYS from one of the huge number of polaris riders on here.

Been in the backcountry before and ripped cogs off the belt.Could have kept riding if I had one. Also been with people that have blown them way back in the backcountry. Doesn't do you much good if belt is 20 miles from you back at the truck. My advice is to treat it like a clutch belt and just pack one and the tools to change one in the field if need be.

Braapin,
Were any of those on a 2015 pro or a 2016 axys? Curious as I haven't heard of many fails in the last couple years, and zero that have blown. That said, I agree and carry a spare. Many, many people I know do not.

I wouldn't worry much about the quickdrive belt, I put 2,100 miles on my first one and 1,500 miles on my second without any failures, but I would carry an extra lower quickdrive sprocket bolt, a drill with a 10" bit (in the truck)and an easy out. I've broke off three bolt heads in 3,600 miles and it really is a miracle I'm still alive after some of the rides I've pulled off with no brakes in an effort to save the sled. The 10.9's snap off heads also. I think I'm going to change out the bolts every 500 miles or so for insurance, they've all broke between 700 to 1000 miles.

Is the axys quickdrive belt longer or shorter than the pro belt? Have a couple brand new 15 belts that took off when I geared them down.
