That should be the vent for the chaincase to allow pressure out.

Any idea what that box on the chain case cover is?

Yes, the new drive shaft is in.

The box on the inside of the cover is the chain case vent.

When going back together, do you put the o-ring in then the bearing or do you put the bearing in then put the o-ring over the exposed surface of the bearing then the hold down?
