question on exhaust idea..

hey guys, i have a 2007 xrs... it has a few goodies on it but i would like it louder, has the slp can and its seems very heavy for what it is. so i have an idea to build my own ( i am looking for a J star thats used if i can find one) or like i said build my own, now my idea is to use a aftermarket slip on from a crotch rocket, yamaha R6, its aluminum on the exit end and carbon fiber mid section with a stainless inlet. its a striaght threw core with a diameter close to 2" 1 3/4-1 7/8 i think. this can is long since it was a high mount style exhaust. i was planning on cutting it down around the 8" in length so it can stand vertical like the slp dose. but my question is: will the 8" of length be enough with a core diameter of this size? or will it restrict to much? any help would be great. i dont feel like playing with jetting and i am no expert so i thought i would ask here.

if its flow through like you say how will cutting it down restrict flow? those mufflers are just like a flow through glass pack so i dont see how it would hurt anything. probably sound pretty unique but very loud to say the least.

Keep the SLP....you will lose power if you start messing with the silencer....the pipe needs a specific amount of back pressure to operate correctly. Not to mention loud sleds give us a bad rep. :face-icon-small-win

Have to agree with Winter Brew. Start messing with the piping and your gonna screw up your tuning. If you want a louder can go with an HPS or mbrp.... I run an mbrp on my kids 800 and it's tolerable till wot and then it's ear plug time.

try it out and if it doesnt work take it off. trial and error, i know guys who make there own and sounds awsome just time and effort to put into it

thanks guys, i guess if i have time i will try it? i forgot to mention the core diameter was only 2" max and the slp is alot larger on the intake and exit ends of there can, theres is not straight threw but thought it might be to restrictive? as for loud im not to worried. there are alot of tripple piped sleds out there and i dont think this will be as loud as them.

i guess i will focus more on building a set of running boards forst and if i have time ill build the can and try it out on the hill checking plug burns along the way and have my slp can in the backpack just in case :)
