Question for you'll.

Question for you guys. How far do you have to trailer to if you coming from the Meridian-Boise area? I've been rolling around the idea about moving west. I would like a location near riding areas. I'm a little spoiled now because I can leave right from my house. The short sled season really stinks where I'm at. Sometimes we don't even have a season! I'm not looking for huge mtn riding. Foothills, meadows and groomed trails are fine...for now. My wife rides and we do go out with our two kids for short rides. I would love a place I could take them a few weekends. Thanks for the help.

Couple hours, I have never seen more than a little bit of snow in Boise in the last two years, and it melts off.

Thanks guys!

Is there a better location to live? Maybe something that is only 30 mins to an hr? I'm looking for an area that has good schools and my wife says needs to be by a hospital. What is your average riding season for an easy accessible ride area? Maybe 1 hrs drive away.

Thanks again for the info.

30 to 45 min from here is the bone area rolling hills, open space , big network of trails several Hospitals close by..

McCall, Donnelly, Cascade all have mountains in the backyard. Donnelly has a fantastic elementary school we have been told by many people, we bought one of our SUV's from the principal actually. We are moving from McCall to Donnelly, this place (McCall) is a jackwagon magnet in the summer.
Hospital in McCall, but it isn't great. Nice, but not great.
Heh, wife went to the ER the other day after my 3 year old dropped a log on her foot, we thought it was broken, instant black and she cried all the way to the ER, the Dr. on duty refused to give her any pain meds. But I had a Dr. last summer here that gave them to me hand over fist, I was on Vicodin for two full months before I buckled down, refused refills, and kicked them.
Pretty place to live, but a lot of drawbacks for sure.

Bone is close to Idaho Falls as is the Big Holes area of riding. Lots of groomed trails meadows, etc. A bonus is its only 2 hours from Island Park and all the riding nice riding up there.

Depending on road conditions/traffic you can leave meridian and be to a riding area in an as little as hour. we usually have studded snow tires and drive regular speed limits.

there's a little play area with trails that kids can ride on right outside of Idaho City.

for early season new sled break in you can even ride fire roads by the local ski resort. my dad took me here a couple times after school when it snowed and i was really bugging him to ride.

while it doesnt snow a lot in town there have been many days we busted out the bravo's and played in the yard or fields when it snowed 2-4", but as others mentioned more often than not its gone in a day or two.

Depending on the particular school we have some good public options for schools, and private isnt too bad.

cascade/mccall is awesome, just hard to find a job up there that pays enough to put gas in the sleds.

Yah, unless you have a job doing something remotely/that doesn't depend on the locals for $, you are pretty much screwed in McCall.

15-20 minute drive gets you to two good riding areas near Pocatello. Mink Creek offers rolling fields (with groomed trails) and some fair mountain riding. Inman majorly has mountain riding with a groomed trail loop that's around 50-60 miles in length but these areas vary with annual snowfall averages year to year. One hour drive gets you to Eight Mile and Emigration Canyon which is some of the best snowmobiling I've experienced (mountain riding mainly with huge open meadows) and it always gets dumped on.
