Question for all you M8 Riders

There is only one way your coming up with Power Claw and trenching in the same sentence! And that is YOUR SET UP IS OFF!:face-icon-small-ton

Or you are a 300 pound dude on a 153" M1000! THAT SET UP WILL TRENCH!:face-icon-small-win

So you're saying its impossible to trench out with a powerclaw. My set up is not off and I weigh 180lbs. You say it's all in the set up(duh)....well throw a extremme under it when you have you're suspension set up and see what you get!!!! I wasnt a believer at first until I seen it and rode it. I'm just saying if there is no base the extremme will trench LESS then a PC even when you have your suspension set up.

I have both tracks and ride 60 days a year in allot of Utah fluff. I know what the two tracks do and don't do. Thanks!:face-icon-small-dis

Maybe you should get out to the mountains more often!:thumb:

i've owned an 07 rev and that was the biggest pile of **** i've ever rode in my entire life. bought for 13 grand and sold the next season for $6500 with a BRAND NEW MOTOR. i even felt sorry for the guy that bought it. to even compare these two sleds in the same sentence is a complete joke. if you appreciate a reliable engine and a chassis that is actually capable of sidehilling you will love the m8!

In his defense the 2007 rev that I had was a screaming machine. It had a full SLP kit in it. I loved the machine and it performed very well. However I did get the full enjoyment of going through two motors in three years :face-icon-small-fro, I am very exited about he M8 and the buletprrof motor. Thanks for all your help.. LET IT SNOW !!!!

I have a 2010 Summit X 146 and my GF has 2010 M8 HCR 153, the footprint of the track is pretty similar between the two. I did some comparisons last winter in deep snow(4 ft.), started in the same spot side by side one another and hit the same hill in fresh tracks. Her AC went twice as high as my Ski-Doo would go and the hill got progressively steeper. The AC absolutely destroyed the Summit in hillclimbing, but I think the AC's steer like poo! The Ski-Doo sets the steering column over the motor and the Cats goes strait down behind the motor, on the Cats, you steer from your elbows and the Ski-Doos, you stand on your hands. I think the Ski-Doo handles much better, however I know that the Cats go much better.

That's a stretch.....

Whats a stretch, I've beat 2010 m8's on my m1000 and been beat by 09 ported piped m8's, and the 2010 m8(stock) beat s 2010 xp with full slp pipe and clutched. and the xp had a larger footprint. This xp is a great sled though and I would love to have it.

I was going to give you crap but then I thought about it and if there is no base you can get to dirt, where I'm sure the CE is better.:thumb:
Compared the two and no comparison in favor of the PC unless its stiffer snow.

Thats all rider style, ride with some AC guys that know how to use the sled and then learn. Just curios how high are your handle bars on the m8, if your not bending over to grab them you will never be able to ride it like its made to be ridden.

That's not the results that we've seen. Same sleds w/ the 2 different tracks side by side. The powerclaw does trench more. Like I said, I'm gonna get some flack cause everyone loves the powerclaw. Powerclaw is probaly the best track all around. But.....

your comparisons are the exact opposite of what we have found... maybe the snow is that much different in the flat lands of Minnesota, but here in idaho, utah, montana, wyoming snow i have seen the power claw time and time again out perform the camo extreme. not to mention that its over 12lbs lighter of rotating mass... thats a lot of power being robbed. Trenching also has a lot to do with how good the rider on the sled is, side by side comparisons aren't always the best, body position and throttle timing make a huge difference in how a bad a sled will trench

My stock 07 rev with rooster built clutch package and can was dead nuts even with buddy's stock 2010 M8 with a can, another identical M8....we could go back and forth all day but the point is they're very close and it will depend more who's riding it than the sled.

You're right...I'm from Minnesota....what would I know. I don't even ride in MN. The guy that highly suggested this is from Idaho. He does R&D for engine mods, so you could say he puts on some miles in a season. I'm not telling you guys to get rid of your PCs so don't get all pissy. The guys that have switched their PCs for Extremmes are all locals out west and some are guides.
So we disagree...big deal.:thumb:

On my sled, the powerclaw trenched, the CE 2.5 was a better track (the real CE, not the Arctic Cat challenger that a lot of people confuse for the CE). I rode one day with the PC then switched and rode the next day. Same area. Took lines right beside the Power Claw tracks and the difference was night and day. You can say it was setup, but I spent the whole day making changes trying to get it to work on my sled. Could not get it to work as well as the CE.

To each their own, but there are plenty of people out here that will disagree that the pc is a better track in the deep stuff.

anyone that thinks there PC stinks please email me i will take it off our hands....my m8 could use new shoes!!

Powderhound.....all I can tell you is you are going to get your azz handed to you by the doos this year. You took a huge step in the wrong direction! Long live the azz kicker!!

:face-icon-small-dis
I am new to Arctic Cat this year. I purchased an 09 M8 sno pro. Born and raised on cats rode all through high school. Five years ago got back into sledding and have been on a 04 and 07 Revs. Went skidoo cause it was what all my buddies were riding. Anywho... had a conversation with a gentleman that has knocked all the wind out of my sail. I am so exited to be on an M8 I can hardly stand it. I was talking and this person tells me " I hate to break it to you ... but your cat will not even be close to youer 07 rev." You will hate your cat for lack of power. Even more the powerclaw is crap and you need to get a new track if you want to have any fun at all. You will be digging out all day. The powerclaw is a trenching machine and you will hate it.... I inform him that i have already ordered an SLP kit (y-pipe, can, pipe and clutch kit. ) the sled already has an air intake. He says doesnt matter unless you turbo it will never hang with the ski-doo. He also informs me that he rides and owns ski-doos and cats. The cat although fun to ride will never have the throttle resopnse of the rev, or be able to hang with the rev on the mountain. WIll someone please tell me that I have not made a 7,000.00 mistake ... know that people can be brand loyal. But i hope that he is full of crap. Someone please make me fell better ...

Thanks

I switched from Polaris to Cat last year and Ive been VERY happy with the Cat.

The stock M8 motor will not be as peaky as the Rotax, but it is smooth and predictable and produces good torque. I have the same sled as you and have been thrilled with it and all I did was a little less stiff primary spring and some accessories I had 1250 miles on it in one season and hit a LOT of fresh pow with it (even for last year :face-icon-small-dis) . It's as good of boondocker as you're gonna find as far as a bone stock sled.

And that guy is smoking something if he thinks the powerclaw is crap. that track is AWSOME.

Once you get used to it youll love it.
