QD belt failure... 150 miles

I felt like I did a pretty fair break in. I was at 89 miles, plus ten on the trail in on Sunday. Rode it hard from 100 on. We did about 55 miles, 8 gallons of gas. Took it out with my son Tues for a few hours, same ten miles in easy, some hard riding and stucks, the belt is missing four teeth.

I went ahead and disassembled the drive system. I took advice from this site and chamfered the back side of the pulleys a bit, touching both ends up with some fine emrey cloth.

The sled is still under its first year of warranty. I think it had the update done though I could not see any difference in the bolts, or threadlocker color top to bottom.

Hopefully a warranty canidate? Do I have to load it up and bring it to them. I have pics. I would ideally like to show up when they open, grab a belt, put it on the sled, and ride. I will do my trail time again, but at least I can get out on my day off.

Chances of this actually happening?

I wouldn't take it apart. Go straight to the dealer.

Just a question....did you have any landings when you landed on the throttle?

hey

if it was me i would honestly go with the tkillc belt drive kit , i had the same thing happen with my pro and im pretty much done paying 225 for a quickdrive belt , i just have no faith in the system anymore , i broke mine in everytime properly and still seemed to strip cogs !

Mmm My 2014 has 120 miles on it and track is loooose. Tighting tomorrow.

How loose is your track? Tighten it before you take it in to dealer but i suspect thats a part of it which suckkss.

If i blow a belt im putting a aftermarket kit on if dealer does not cover belt. $250 a belt plus second cause ill be worried about blowing new one and then tools? Psh ill get an aftermarket one.

I fully intend to be riding it today. That means I get to fix it because, there is no way I am wainting for the dealer to screw around half the day. I didn't buy it new from them. They have been pretty cool so far but I am not accustomed to waiting on a dealer for fixes, unless it is something big.

I already took it apart. I already made it easier to re-assemble. I was just hoping that a)the dealer has a 14 belt, and b) he will let me have it as a warranty replacement even if I do the R&R.

I checked the pulley and driveshaft, both seem perfectly true.

I think what happened to the belt was simple heat soak. Ridden hard for a while, then I get stuck. Sled sits for 20 minutes while I dig it out. The belt sits on the hot top pulley causing the teeth to weaken, next time it is stressed, off they come. No hard on throttle landings because I really do not jump it at all, I would have (maybe should have) bought an Assault if that was my style. I was rippin it hard in the deep snow but I thought it was a powder sled?

I wont go aftermarket this time but another one goes and you guys will have me convinced. Sled is a 2013

I would just take it in too dealer half day or not.I brought my 14 pro in due to guage flicker. While in I had them look at my 115 drive belt pulling a cord @ 106 miles.Belt was replaced no questions asked.I have a great dealer, they pulled my sled off my trailer and got to work on it and fixed me up while I waited.

Well... My dealer is retarded at best. The old guy who has worked there for the decade I have been around here didn't even know what the belt was for. Then he couldn't determine if the ONE he had in stock was a '13 version or a '14. I am pretty sure it is the '13 version as the torque spc on the install sheet still said 29 lb/ft for the bolts. Took me an hour just to get out the door with the belt.

Every dealer in my area, all three of them, are in complete denial that the PRO has ANY issues. No blown belts, no blown motors, no broken a-arms. I told the guy it was like they live in fantasy land where sleds never break. That probably didn't help but come on, try operating your business outside the shell, look for ways to HELP customers with solutions.

I paid for the belt, they will submit and "ask polaris" claim.... meaning I paid for the belt LOL.

Good thing I took it out and rode it because the whole dealer thing irritates me to no end. If the sled wasn't so damn fun I might just have to ride a ski-doo. They are the onl brand with decent support around here. Cat was good but moved out of town. Oh well, taking a deep breath, I knew what I was getting into.

The good news, my Cat riding buddies, the ones razzing me for the broken new sled, were actually the guys who broke one on the ride. The M1000 broke the rear axle in the skid.... Karma for sure.

Bite the bullet and change out the factory system. I run the TKI belt system, works great. You will fight it until you do, and you may have some interesting events occur when the belt breaks heading straight up hill.

So is that a '13 belt too? Is that frost or corrosion on the pulley? What's that bracket for near the exhaust hole?

First, most peeps got a belt from Poo last year. Second, get the '14 belt. Third, early failure, check the obvious (pulley torque, pulley trueness-wobble, break-in temps) then just ride.

Is yours a 14? Yes I bought mine from them ,snowcheck. My 115 drivebelt was showing a cord and Larry [co owner replaced no questions asked]I am a long time customer and have bought 4 new sleds in last 6 yrs from them.

Ya it's a 14 I had told Dennis I had my cord was coming out at about 120 and he said to bring it in and they would take care of it. So I brought it down they said there was nothing wrong with the clutches and sent me on my way with cords hanging out of my belt??? I'm not the guy to make a scene so I just took it home. I might go down and ask why they never replaced it cause going through a belt while breaking in a sled is BS!!!!

After blowing 3 belts in 750 miles on my 13 I bite the bullet and went with c3 belt drive my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner !!

Same here. I did both of mine with C3. Not one regret. Just pure piece of mind. What ever aftermarket belt drive, just lose the stock system.

If this is what happened (heat soak); wouldn't this be happening all the time? As people are riding hard then stopping for lunch; riding hard and stopping for a break. All of this, in theory, would cause heat soak, right?

Yes, I think so...

They fail with alarming regularity from what I have read, and what is being confirmed by most of the posts in this thread.

Didn't they change the belt for '14 to a more heat resistant design?

What kind of a price tag are on the aftermarket kits?
