Probable new Washington state record non-typical bull killed

"The Governor's tag sells at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's National Convention in Reno in February 2008. The 2008 tag is good Sept. 1 - Dec. 31 for any legal weapon in Eastern WA except: GMU 157; GMU's closed to elk hunting; and GMU's not open for branch-antlered bulls. As mentioned earlier, it went for well over $50,000. What a fabulous contribution to wildlife conservation!" ---quote from article

This made me gag. I mean the RMEF does some good things...But they also do support some other foundations that don't do such good things for us snowmobilers.

BUT, thats big bull and congrats to him on the kill. Good thread, thanks for sharing.

Not into paying for elk period  good bull but I wouldnt give $500 for it. If I wanted record setting antlers id have my taxidermist make me a set and throw it on a head

good man though, used a Remmy Sendero :p

I hope that he eats the meat. People that horn hunt kind of irritate me. Some of the ones I know shoot these monster animals and then throw the meat away because it was too tough to eat. Duh, when you shoot a moose that is covered in battle scars and that has a rack the size of Rhode Island, the meat is not going to be that good.

I hope he had lots of time to spread his genes. In a sense it's to bad they had to thump that one. It's like cutting down the biggest tree in the forest!!
If it wasn't that dude it would have been someone else.
That old Bull will be a tough cut of meat!! He better eat that thing though.

the fella that spent $65k for them antlers will not be eating any of the meat, highly likely...:face-icon-small-dis

and there is many more Hi-Fence killers like him standing in line!

The local paper that interviewed him said that he hadn't gotten the meat back from processing yet but he would eat it even though he knows it will be tough as old shoe loeather because he loves elk meat. Probably won't be able to stick a fork in the gravy but at least he SAYS he will eat it. Also, this was a public land bull, NOT a game farm bull and the only money he paid was for the tag and a couple days for an outfitter. Not really any different than putting in for an expensive special permit. It's a rediculous amount to spend on a tag but I wouldn't exactly say he "bought" the elk. All he actually "bought" was the right to hunt 2 weeks before the regular season opened. Let's not forget that public land elk that get this big don't get that way because they are easy to hunt. I'm betting that hunt was a lot tougher than you think. He also said that he saw an 8X8 after he shot this one that is as big or bigger in the same area and THAT one is fair game to anyone.

I've had great elk meat and I've had not so great elk meat. Some of the best has come from big old herd bulls with no teeth left. Some of the worst has come from dry cows and spike bulls.

its funny how the big bulls are paid for, i just cant see doin that.
if i start my own record book where you just pay to get into it,dont even have to shoot anything... anybody want in? :)

50000 thousand? thats a sweet bull, but the govenor tag in utah sold for just under 200,000 thousand this year. We killed 23 confirmed bulls over 400 last year, this has been an extremely slow year here in utah, i only know of 7 bulls killed over 400 this year, my dad did kill a 375 bull though. I will try to post some pictures of if for you, we took them on a disposable camera, but i will see if i can figure out how to use our new scanner and up load them on the computer

I have been guiding deer all fall and the elk just started buggling hard about a week and a half ago. Was it just utah or has it been a late rut in your guys states too??
