Pro Vs. Summit

Ok I had to post this, but a buddy of mine just bought a new 2013 Ski-Doo Summit X 163, then put a Boondocker Turbo on it. Ever since I have been riding with him he has been a die-hard Ski-Doo guy. When I bought my first sled i bought a 2011 Pro. From day one all of our friends ride Ski-Doo and everyone of them has been kinda picking on me because of that asking why I would even buy "that pile". Welp... the guy who put the turbo on the brand new ski-doo went riding with Chris Burandt last week and he switched with Burandt for a while and rode one of his Pros. Once he got back we got to talking about me updating sleds and I was starting to bend to pressure and thinking of trading to a Ski-Doo (peer pressure is a BITCH!), right then and there I about fell off the bar stool when he told me TO HOLD ONTO MY POLARIS!!! THIS COMING FROM ONE OF THE MOST DIE-HARD SKI-DOO GUYS AROUND!!! He said the ability to side-hill a Pro was half the effort of a DOO, and that everyone including Ski-Doo was chasing Polaris in mountain sleds, (and with Ski-Doo announcing their 2014 lineup last night, that doesn't look like it will be changing anytime soon.) He has three sleds including his 2013 Turbo, he said he is going to sell his other two sleds and get a NEW Pro!!! POLARIS IS ON TOP OF THEIR GAME!! LETS HOPE THEY STAY THERE!! Again, I just had to post this because of the shock i received when he told me about wanting a PRO!

Like we didn't know lol.

This is my first year on a Poo PRO and it's been a revelation. This is a riders sled. From the throttle response to the rigid chassis to the great suspention to the trouble free clutches. Everything just works the way it should when you're finding your own way.
All the years of yanking, trenching to stay pointed in the right direction, turning out cause you don't think it'll make the last 20' are from the past. I thought I knew what a sled was capable of. Wrong.
The Pro takes me more places I wanna get to at 3/4 throttle than any sled I've had before would at full throttle.

I have quite a few years of sleddin under my belt but I had way more time on bikes. One particularly fine day on the way home this winter, I had my revelation. I remembered `93 and my early season training on my brand new CR 250. When I finally got to the top of the mountain it seemed like I gained a step or two in ability over that winter. Then I realized it was the bike. They finally built a bike better than I am.

That`s how I felt on my way home that day. A sled that finally better than me lol.

DOESN'T SUPRISE ME.

Fricken hilarious. :face-icon-small-ton
We had an annoying Cat guy riding with us this year. He even smells green. He spent 8 minutes on my 2013 Pro. He said he wanted to buy a Pro now. He even said he would buy my 2011 Pro.
My head spun around like that girls did in the exorcist! BAHAAAAA!

Is it me or does the Polaris pull over on its side easier than anything out there? I rode an XM yesterday. Loved the Etec and the weight transfer. Although the initial tip is easier on the XM ones you get past the Flex of the suspension and track I found it much more effort to get it tipped the rest of the way and hold it there. I can on my Pro it is so easy and I can tip my IQ easier than the Doo as well.

Funny if you go to the Doo site you'll hear the same story with the brands Flipped, Never ends LoL

I will say the XM is day and night better than the XP. I am sure I could get used to it real quick.

I too am coming off a skidoo. I am so happy to pull the rope and go ride. I dint have to worry about clutches, dropping weight etc. my pro has been flawless, not saying I won't have any problems. But at least I know that these machines flat out perform.
I will definatly buy another poo!

I've seen several this season that have switched to Polaris or are in the process of doing so. The stability and predictability of the chassis is why most are making the change. When a a Pro is clutched properly it will run with any other 800 on the mountain. There are alot of folks out there that will forever think the Ski-Doo is the most awkward and most impossible to ride chassis ever made, myself included. I think I could spend a lifetime trying to figure it out and would never be comfortable on one.

I'd say it on either forum. These are the two sleds to have this year. I'd take either but I prefer my Pro to the small amount of time I have on an XM. Great motor on the XM and they did improve the handling but I still think the Pro gets up on the snow better. I'd like to have the new '14 black and red XM to go with my Pro.

The pro is really hard to beat but the xm is also a fun sled. I have rode 4 of them. In the right snow they are effortless. The steering is twice as easy. They tip up easier. I stole a buddies xm and was playing in the trees with another buddy on his stock 13 pro. I beat him by 10 feet. The motor is awesome. It sounds like a 4 stroke when you start it up. Going down a steep hill, in the trees, they are awesome. Just put your weight in the footwell and it will stuff the spindle. Way harder to stuff the spindle on the pro. They ride better than the pro and the fit and finish is better. You do not notice the weight difference until you flip an xm over backwards. They are the easiest sled to roll over. The main drawback that I can see is diving in the front end in the right snow conditions. On a sidehill it will make the back end wash out. Also i did have an issue cranking really tight turns in the trees. It seemed to get to a point where it would stop coming over when on the gas. I don't think they crawl up on the snow as good as my 13 pro. I struggled a little bit in real hairy stuff when following a track. A bunch of my dislikes might be attributed to a learning curve or not used to it. My likes outweighed the dislikes, by far, and I hated the xp. I still think all the trinkets are a bandaid for a chassis problem but it is hard to knock success. If you put the same stuff on a pro it would be rediculously easy. I think the people who don't like the pro, and love the xm, don't have the countersteer and throttle figured out. I think novice riders will have an easier time on the xm and I am not saying xm's are for novice riders. I could ride either of them.

We ride with 3 2013 xms in our group, 2 of them are 163 and one a 154, there is a 2011 cat m8 162 3 inch track and a 2010 cat m8 162 3 inch track slp and y pipe, and one 2013 pro 163. The Pro and 2 xms are stock and one xm has a aerocharger turbo,
The only thing I will say about the cat is that when you have a run up to the big hills they do ok, other than that I wouldnt touch one with a 10 foot pole and the guys that ride them feel the same at this point, I like the looks and sounds of them but they just dont cut it.
The pro is great in the tight trees, when sidehilling and picking small lines up through the trees and messing around on foggy days in the medows.
The xm is the sled to have for the hills, it completely destroys the pro on the hills in any type of snow conditions, its really not even close. The xm stays with the hopped up cats with there 3 inch tracks on the hills, it could be 5-10 feet either way depending on if you got a lucky line.
The XM is the best all around sled to have, if your a rider that like to compete on the hills and chutes and longer lines through steep sections in the trees, yes Ill give it to the Pro for the tight tight trees and sidehilling but if you want to compete and make marks you cant ride the pro or the cat.
I am not biased at all, we have over 1500 km this year on these sleds and we ride 2 times a week and dont come home until we have 110 kms on the speedo.
Those are the facts and I am not brand biased either, if the pro was the sled to have I would have one, if the cat was the one to have I would have one, it doesnt matter to me, Ill buy what ever is working but this year the xm is the best all around sled to have for the steep and deep, anyone that says a stock 163 pro will beat a 163 xm on the hills or in 2 feet of fresh on lines through trees, wide open climbs or anywhere but being more rider friendly for the mellow stuff, is not being straight up.

Yes I love my Pro too. I guess all the real world results I have seen dont count cause I only put on exactly 100 km in a day. :what:

Not quite apples to apples though. I think the 163 x 16 would float all over the 163 x 15. That being said, I am sure it would climb better also. They both are good sleds. I just like the Pro chassis better. My 2 cents.

I don't "compete" anymore. I ride to challenge MY reflexes and experience. I don't pass up 25 km of untouched snow to get up to the packed bowls where 25000 dollars beats 18000 dollars and never have.
I also will never pay to ride up a trail that's been groomed for me but that's a political thing.
It`s absolutely boring to me and 1 or 2 sled lengths mean nothing and never did. For many that is the challenge and fun. Kudos for those cause it's a big world out there.

I came from bikes to sleds. I followed to the top and poked for a year or three and even built a few that got 10 ft highest lol. But, I still liked riding bikes better and we never did that on the bikes (same guys). We left the trucks and entered the bush within 100 ft.
When we got back to the trucks we were beat and sweaty lol. It was always a great and satisfying feeling.

I started riding my sleds like that. A good ride might be 25 miles in 5 or 6 hrs lol. Many times the only way back was exactly the way I went in.
Some friends started joining (many never returned lol) and I remember lot`s of times 3 or 4 of us stuck bad within eyesight, helmets off, jackets open and enough steam rising to start a spring melt lol.
That was fun to me and hooked me onto sleddin cause when your stuck there is no mosquitos and when you get home you just unload and hang to dry. No mud to wash off lol.

There is two things different with the Pro that no other sled has caught up to yet (ya I've ridden them) is that bike feeling. It is so narrow through the snow. Compare the XM, PC, Pro trenches (I mean in real snow like when you step off you still sink) and the Pro leaves a V trench. The other two look like a boat went through with a wake on either side.
The other thing is nothing gets up on the snow quicker. When you only have 10' available with a 9' sled. That's real important to me.

Since we're sharing, I'll share my opinion of the XM (154X) from a very short ride. It doesn't get up on the snow as quick (oh i said that before). It doesn't turn as quick or putt as slow in the trees. I though the rear felt very loose on any serious angle. and the big surprise to me is the throttle responce felt slow. Slower than even my Cat's.
It did feel real nice in the meadows though but any sled I've ridden does. It might even get to a higher MPH on a meadow or on a poke but I don't really care.

Real secret to having the best sled on the snow is have fun with what you got.

Couldnt have said it better. "Bike feeling" I have not heard the comparison yet, but you sir are on to something.

I have rode dirt bikes all my life and the Pro just fits my riding style perfectly.

Jesus Christ, really? This has got to be the most useless topic to discuss.....period....the end. "My diehard ski doo buddy changed his mind!!!!" Well your buddy just might be the end all be all of everything in your world. Congrats on your man crush! lol ;) I personally like all three mountain 800 sleds and can ride them equally as good as one another. Good thing I'm not the end all be all of your world because you would end up buying two more sleds lol. That and I'm not really into dudes looking up at me all starry eyed and following my every decision. lol
