PRO steering post bushings

LOL. Lets get back on topic. Doo lovers back to your forums with the other ladies.

I have 3 pros & I replaced all the aluminum plates that hold the upper bushings on. The factory plate is one gauge heavier than tin foil & it bends when you turn your steering hard left, it bends the plate & it has play in it then. If you look down into the back of the bushing you will probably notice a bend in this plate, if it is bent enough the back half of the bushing will be broken in the middle. I made new plates from .25" plate aluminum, bolts are still long enough.
Days are getting shorter, snow will be back soon!

I just replaced the upper and lower bushings with new ones. The steering is as tight as when it was new. The bushings are pretty inexpensive, I think it was $17.00 for the 4 bushings required. It took me about 15 minutes to replace them. I greased them with a good lithium grease, so maybe that will solve the problem. I think my original bushings were not properly greased from the factory.

I hope this thread helps someone with the same issue. We just need the Doo poster to stay in thier forum and quit taking the thread off topic.

I wonder if having those metal straps able to bend and then the bushing break (mine were not broken), maybe a good thing? I would rather change out a $4.00 dollar bushing and straighten the metal strap than replace a bent steering post. I have replaced many bent steering posts for guys on older sleds with upper and lower bushings in a strong metal strap/keeper.
Just a thought, but the stock straps might be an advantage in the long run??

Bingo!

Did just that for me this March. Crossing a creek peeps were pinning it a bit to get over and since I was a ways down the line, a big trench formed between two trees.

I tried to lean to the left, but my right spindle just caught on the tree and I hit the right side of the handlebars kinda hard. There was a snap and I felt the bars give like a click, but did not understand right away what had happened.

After that I could force my bars more than 90deg to the left like I've seen on Cat Ms with bent steering rod. Upon inspection one of my bushings were broken.

Cheap fix and a weak link as good as any. Enough force and SOMETHING will break!

I broke one of mine sidehilling last year! Was quite a ride. As cheap as they are i bought four of them and keep spares in the trailer.

I keep spares too. Broke two of them this season. I am impressed by what they have held up to though, I would have broken a post with billet bushings for sure. I will stick to the stock ones, they are easy to replace too.

Hey there Dallas! I hope you get better snow next year. Good luck with the mods. No, I don't see any way to put a grease zerk on the bushings. It's really easy to remove them and grease them.
Don't worry about your buds on the XP's...... your sled stock, will keep them wishing for more out of their sleds!
