PRO RMK ski width

I would like to hear some feedback from guys who have actual experience with different ski width settings. On a PRO you can move the spacers and change the ski width quite a bit. I plan on running mine (to start with) in the center width position. My question is.... how much of an actual effect... turning and side hilling do you feel when the skis are adjusted to the narrowest setting? Any comments from riders who have tried different widths would be appreciated.

OS:

I've tried all 3 positions and personally like the center and narrow positions best. I felt the wide setting flattened things out too much for sidehilling and made it a little more difficult to pull it up and keep it locked into the sidehill(made it feel a little like a Ski Turd, at least for me).

Being that I picked my Pro up last March, I never really had a chance to ride it in the real deep powder. I have it set in the middle setting at present for last season's spring time riding. Will try the narrow setting again when the powder returns.

Try all three and see what works best for you. Bottom line -- you're gonna have fun on that ride!

mine never left the narrowest position, i love it wont change it.. as for jumping im sure widening it out would help but i dont care and havent had a problem yet.

Im going with the narrow setting and not looking back. I like to side hill in the trees and this shouldd be the best setting for that.

the narrowest stance you can go is a 39 " stance thats with the spacers on the narrowest, i have my stance at a 37" stance i did some custom stuff that made it super narrow i love it for what i do.

Thanks for the comments guys. One of the reasons I bought the PRO was for the improvment in sidehilling. I think I will start out in the middle and maybe during the middle of a ride I will move them to the narrowest setting to immediatly see the difference.

OS, I started mine in the center pos and ended up in the narrow, I like the feel.
More significantly, my Wife isn't aggresive at all and she was having trouble popping her sled up on a sidehill in tight trees or where she didnt' have much room (nervous with the throttle) one I put her sled in the narrowest position, she thanked me and was very happy with how much easier it was to bring/keep up.

These sleds sure make me look good . . . :face-icon-small-win

I think it has alot to do with agility and insight. If you are quick to respond to a given situation and agile enough you can make the narrow setting work well.I find the older I get the slower I am to respond so I like a little forgiveness in my sled.
I have not rode my assault enough to comment on the off camber decent but I know the dragon favored the down hill which usually but you over the sled if you were not paying attention.

Starting out on the narrowest position on the Assault. Hoping with no stabilizer bar it will react about the same as the RMK in middle setting and the sway bar..??
Just liked the shocks soooo much more on the Assault i had to get that bad boy lol...

I can do one better yet. I've tried all the stock settings plus HOLZ which is 1" wider. The way for this sled that feels the most agile but also balanced is the HOLZ front end with the narrowest ski stance. My advice is to ride the thing in all the positions and in various terrain to see what feels best for your type of riding, the shock setup that you have, and the misc stuff you encounter on your day afield. It just takes seconds to switch them around. Hey maybe you guys that have trouble sidehilling your "weak" side should try a staggered stance!:becky::becky:

JOKING DON"T! (with this sled you should no longer have a weak side)

Hummmm, I seem to have TWO weak sides ! :face-icon-small-con:face-icon-small-con

Maybe one ski ?!?!

Two weak sides? Are you telling me that your glass is half full! Now wait just a minute because I know that you are a certified graduate of at least one 'CLINIC'! How did you get your certificate of accomplishment! Bagger did you get a white ribbon of participation :face-icon-small-win instead a blue ribbon of excellence and improvement?

Here are some tips:

I wouldn't remove a ski...you just end up going round and round all day long. We'll have to call you Nascar!

Remove your sway bar....and getting a REALLY REALLY BIG super high leverage aftermarket mountain bar. Some people even fashion up a strap for maximum angle dangle. If that doesn't do if for you I'm developing a quick release SHOCK tower removal thingy mogigger. You just pop a shock off and you can't believe how easy she is to tip over! Still in testing!:face-icon-small-win

Then you must practice the "OUT RIGGER CLING FOR LIFE PROCEDURE" Windsurfers and cat sailors seem to excel at this maneuver so there must be some sort of cross over in the sports. Keep those skis ultra straight and safely planted for maximum stability in slightly off camber terrain crossings. Safety first!

That's the same reason I got the assault. I'm going to try the same thing as you if i don't like it I'll be spending some money to make it like the pros width

Rode an assault all last season in the middle it laid over very easily I thought...didn't have any trouble..I only weigh 140 so If I didnt have any trouble couldnt imagine anyone bigger than a buck 40 having trouble laying it over..:face-icon-small-sho..never had a chance to ride a pro with the narrower front tho..I wouldn't wry to much bout.it being a lil wider ..shocks were worth it in my mind

If the narrowest OEM stance isn't narrow enough, try the 38" Barkbusters. I have them as well as Float2 shock on my 09 RMK and love them. The spacers are 5/8" (OEM are 1/2" I believe). The narrowest stance on mine is now about 36 1/2". I have it on the middle which is around 37 1/4". I HAD to remove the sway as the Barkbuster aren't made to use the rear mounted RMK sway bar. No problem, set the Float2 at 80 psi (per Allen from Timbersled). Tips up on it's side with almost zero effort.

Narrow in the pow worked best for me. Went back to centered for spring conditions which gave more stability at high speeds and for jumping.

Have FUN!

Same thoughts here.

I use to ride my old RMK's in the middle setting (40") and will be setting the new Assault to the narrowest (41.5"). 1.5" difference which should translate to 3/4 of an inch for each side, and minus a sway bar, I'm hoping it works!
