PRO RMK RK Tek Review!!!

So i was on the fence about what pistons to do like I'm sure a lot of you. I went with the RKT Direct Replacement pistons and here is what i got to say. Ordered them and 2 days later they showed up! They looked great! Got my old pistons out and did a little measuring. The piston to cyl clearance on the OEM pistons was .01" which is way out of spec. Supposed to be .005-.006". And yes they rocked like crazy in the cylinder i was amazed! The new pistons were a perfect fit at .005" and the ring end gap was also perfect right at .018". I didn't have to file them at all.
Got to fire it up a few minutes ago and she started 2nd pull. I was surprised because i replaced the fuel filter as well and thought it would take a little more. Anyway it runs a lot smoother at idle. Going to go break it in this weekend ill report back.
***UPDATE***
Rode it today made it 10 miles up the trail and pto side lost compression. It was using oil and I premixed fuel at 150:1 sled never went above 150 degrees and ran amazing till it lost compression. I'm confused now!! Going to tear into it and I'll report back

UPDATE
Tore it down to find a messed up cylinder, piston and head. It was severely scarred and mashed up. The only thing i can think of is when i was tearing it down one of the tabs broke and flew off the small coolant hose on the head and i couldn't find it. I believe it landed in my air box and sucked into the motor.

Heres some picures of the damage. The last picture is of the pieces of the clamp that was stuck in the top of the piston!!

had them in a 2012 pro ,put 1200 miles on them and that machine had never ran that good . will be doing my 2015 this spring. best money spent on pistons

Just a heads up to anyone installing some wossners. Absolutely make sure you double, or even triple check that your wrist pin circlips are seated properly. Installed an 858 big bore in a friends sled. Had to shave some material off of the wrist pins to get the circlips seated properly. Called rkt and he said he's had to do this himself a few times as well.

So anyone who is iffy about what pistons to buy i would recommend these. The fit is great they look to be a lot more structurally sound and hopefully won't lose clearance in 500 miles haha

What yer of Pro and how many miles did you have on it before you decided to go with this kit?

S/C

Wondering if you de-glazed the cylinder prior to the new piston install (ie straight hone, ball hone etc) or simply changed them out with no cylinder prep..?

A very good wash and a light run through with scotchbrite soap and water. Then wash it out real good with a clean white rag and wd40. Wipe it till the rag comes out clean

I just had the RK TEK drop in kit installed. I still need to get a fuel controller. RK TEK says they run the Boondocker control box but my mechanic is convinced the Power Commander V and Auto tuner is the way to go. I'm not sure as I'm a newbie. Does any one have an opinion on this? Supposedly the PCV with the auto tuner only takes one trip to get it set up and then it is spot on because of the Auto Tuner.

How has the Boondocker Box worked for you guys? Are you happy with it? Would you do anything different now that you're set up the way you are?

The elevation I ride at is 8000-1000 feet

I'm excited to try this upgrade out!
