Pro RMK 2012 Mountain Sled of the Year

im sorry i feel this was unfair by all means they didn't even test the M8...? Compering a 440lbs 2 stroke to a 560lbs turbo 4 stroke is not even in the same category! I wont be satisfied until there is a fair test of all the 800's i mean apples to apples here people!

I would sure like to see the new M800 includes as well...not sure why they didnt unless Cat just didnt have one to give.....

since they've come out that's all Ive heard the "1100T this 1100T that" im honestly quite sick of it and wanna hear about the 800 its just not fair :face-icon-small-fro

I wouldn't get too hung up on it. Ride what you like. I do believe based on the number of posts I've read on here there are a lot of people that like the new ProRMK and probably for good reason.

I would have been nice to see the ProClimb 800 in the mix. Even if they would have compared it against the 1100T in terms of handling.

I'm guessing that arctic cat almost want's people to forget that there is a 800 so they can slowly phase it out. But that's just my guess
You may well be right, I wonder if its because they cant get it EPA compliant with their current technology, thus pushing the cleaner 4 stroke instead?...that will surely suck if thats the case....I have noticed over the last year or so a pretty large contigent of 4 stroke riders moving to the turbo 2 strokes do to weight and handling...if it does happen that cat drops the 2 stroke, I hope they refine the 4 strokers weight to the point that the other manufacturers are forced to step up their sleds as well...other wise the weight wars of the last 5 seasons are going to die and our sleds are going to stagnate where they are or gain in weight........

what about a 110 hp 2 stroke at elevation vs a 177 hp 4 stroke at elevation? Kinda evens the playing field.

ya but for me and the areas i ride its all abut the trees so the 110hp 2 stroke is gonna be the choice for me plus where i live we dont see much above 5-7k in elevation!

No test footage of the M8? Seem bizarre.. give mtn sled of the yr to one without even reporting ANYTHING on the closest potential contender??

AKsnowrider, I hear you, honestly I don't think there will ever be a sled that does everything better that all other sleds, all the time. To me it makes sense to ride them all and buy what feels best to you. To me, the Pro was fun to ride because it rolls easy without feeling to unstable when up on edge. The narrow boards would take getting used to and I'd definitely have to do something to add some juice to that motor. It feels week.... but makes a good mark. For me, the lack of power takes away a large part of the fun factor. Bottom end snap is where its at :)

Now a Pro chasis, slightly wider boards with better snow evac, with an E tec engine would rip!

polaris paid me alot...a great sled, handles sweet, climbs like a mule, reliable, cool clutches, and most of all....a permagrin...priceless...
whats doo done for you? hot clutches?, bent nuns?greased engine bearings? oh..and doesnt sidehill very good unless you are flawless on your technique, or weight 250 pds.....oh and they cost a couple grand more as well...
I snowchecked 2 new pros this year strictly because of the handling. I have been a doo rider since 98. I also just wanted a change. As far as the cost goes the 12 doo was only $250.00 more than the poo. I got a 4 year warranty with the poo and could have gotten a 3 year warranty on the doo. It may not have the power I am used to, but that can be fixed. It does not have the weight I am used to either:face-icon-small-hap

I ride right from sealevel at alot of the places we ride, and seldom even get over 6000 ft,(although we can ride up over 8500 ft, but its rare) but more power is always nice..course I think its easier and cheaper to buy power then handling...but thats just me...as for the boards...skinz airframes I think are the best out there and solve all sorts of issues.........

I hear ya doo, according to the e-tec rider i rode with he paid 2600 more for his 163 e-tec then I paid for my 163 pro..why I have no idea..I think the power is a pretty easy fix, if you are wanting more...SLP, Carls Cycle, and many others are working on it and will have more for those who want more..I have been thinking about a new cat for next season also..but I really want to ride one first(dealer is both cat and poo)..so I am hoping to get on one next fall.....

Same place as you a year ago, summits since 97, still have 3 of them. One thing you won't miss with the Pro - clutching woes. Man, that p85 runs cool compared to the TRA. wow. You did good, enjoy. The bottom end snap is weaker stock, very good midrange and up top. Mine runs consistent as you could want, happy so far. Good luck.

110 lbs at elevation and 440 lbs?
177 won't happen at elevation, I'll give it 165 at over 500 lbs.

It'll still get smoked in the trees. Lol

Or you could save the money you save by getting the pro over the turbo pig and turbo the pro. ;-).
Just saying.

I get the whole altitude argument with the turbo. Makes sense. But today I rode over 13,000 ft for a good portion of the day. To be honest, I had more issues with the clutching than the power. My clutching dropped to 7800-7900 where it was 8300 all day at 10k-12k. My point is that I would still rather have a light agile sled over a chunky 4 stroke even if the 4 stroke has the power. As others have said, I could turbo my Pro and still be under $16,000. How much is the turbo AC 1100 Sno Pro (since the f'n webpage won't even tell me!).

yes, you can turbo a pro-ride....and you can also live with the running problems and durability issues...and no warranty...:scared:...and having your sled burned down for 3-4 weeks in the middle of the season...:heh:...and since tree riding is so important, how does that fit with the turbo, who's only advantage is in the point and shoot arena...:face-icon-small-dis...i've watched the turbo boys get pretty disaffected with their no problem turbos for everyday riding...:brokenheart:...BUT, if tree riding isn't a priority, the 1100t looks pretty inviting...:face-icon-small-hap

just a little off topic, do you deal with eagle river polaris arctic cat? if so how are they?

they are ok..I think as far as dealers go..hatchers pass is the best up here..I really like Paul(owns ER) but they dont stock much, and when I take my stuff in for warranty work I want it done now..not dumped in the yard where anyone can mess with it...

ya i'm out here in the valley so i think i'll probably go with hatchers and i haven't heard any bad things about them. just wondering how eagle river was thanks for the info

Well Brett R. has been testing the M8 and ive been waiting to hear his feedback and then i found this statement made me pleased should be a good year!!!!

"Comparing to Chris Burandts' new Polaris RMK Pro, I saw no difference in performance in a powder hill climb. It was who ever got the best line. "
