Primary clutch question

My buddy has a 06 M7 153".

During one ride last season, we met this guy on the hill and he told us that the little allen head screws in the pimary weights need to be loosened and put in a little groove with locktite.

I am not familiar with cats and neither is my buddy.

Can someone enlighten me on this subject?

The weight bolt has a notch in it that the little allen screw goes into. This fixes the weight to the bolt. Heat up the allen screw with a torch to release the loctite. Being an 06, I'll bet they're rusted in. I've had two over the last few years that would not come out. It's also easy to break an allen wrench off since it's so small, so don't force it to much. Then you have to drill out the screw and trash the weight, PITA

Why are you pulling the weight?

Use green loctite on the screw when putting it back in.

Good luck ...

Did he not think they were already in the groove? Like Itdoable said the set screw fixes the weight to the bolt. Good luck

Green loctite- Good to know!! After switching weights I've always just used red. Kinda planned on bringing a torch up on the hill this winter to dial in the RKT BB clutching.

Does the green back out easily enough with the allen wrench?

primary weight

loosen the allen 2mm try to take it loose before you put heat to it. after you get it loose take it all the way out and get a light and turn the bolt til you find and get the dimple centered and reinstall allen moving bolt just barely until centered i dont use loctite just keep them tight once you tighten them a couple times they will stay there. its regular maintenance.

If I remember right, the guy that looked at his sled said that they were not in the notches like they are supposed to be.

Is this a common problem? Did they come from the factory incorrectly installed?

i have been lucky when they don;t come out using a LEFT ROTATION drill bit a size below the threads and the weight was saved as the threads stayed good and the left drill bit rotated the allen screw out once the drilling heated it enough

If you look at the head of the bolt that goes through the weight it has a little round notch in it... it is notched for a reason that notch tells you were the indent for the set screw is on the pin turn the pin till the set screw hole and the notch line up and walla the setscrew goes right into the indent... and I would use loctite a little money and headache getting them out but for insurance that the weight is not going to come out and shell the whole clutch
