Primary clutch prob?

I had a 900 polaris and the crank had lots of runout when checked with a dial indicator. Also the taper in the primary was not perfect. Also had trouble with clutch removal and wasted a tool. Tried all the above listed tricks except the rattle gun. I would not do that b/c of the phasing issue. The reason its coming off hard in my experience is the scarring. Crank the tool down tight and give it a sharp rap with a medium ballpeen hammer. Tighten another crank and give it acouple more sharp raps. I found this to work the best. Carefully remove any burrs with small/fine file and clean it up as evenly as possible with scotchbrite cloth. Same with the clutch. I also used some valve grinding compound on the crank snout. Install the clutch with the bolt till its finger tight and slowly spin the clutch on the crank snout. If either is out of round you will be able to feel it get tight then loose. If so continue to spin and reapply cream as needed till it feels like it mates well. After I did this I never had any trouble with scarring and clutch removal. Good Luck

When I pulled mine the first time I thought for sure I was going to break my tool. I tried everything, then water. I left the puller super tight in the hole, and boiled a pot of water. I poured it right between the sheaves, nice and slow. Right when I was about out of water....bam there it came, and flew about 4 feet away from my sled. It was pretty impressive.

Looks like you have some good ideas on here. I like the valve grinding compound trick. it should clean up the tapers if they arent too fubar'd.

Good luck

Joe
