PRIMARY CLUTCH ON PRO

Did they change anything about this shaft? Seems like alot of failures compared to past years when the P-85 has been Mr reliable. Are they still mfgd by TEAM?

I know that on my pro when I got it home and went to pull the clutch off before I rode it I couldn't believe how easy it came off. I've pulled a lot of clutches off and this one couldn't have been torqued more than 15 lbs from the factory.

Def going to check torque today on my primary...

How about the rest of the motor?

I would think that something like this breaking at 6000+ rpm ain't going to be good for the crank. Won't ever be the same anyway.

when mine broke I had no idea that it had til I tried to stop and the sled bogged down and died, went to start it and the rope wouldn't budge so I tipped it on it's side and it started right up. Went to the dealership that day and as the tried to pop it off only the outside half came out like in the pic above.

So for me when it broke I never noticed it, it took me stopping the sled to know it had something wrong with it:face-icon-small-hap

Here are some pics before I welded and pulled off!

I had the same issue on my D8. Welding didnt work so I had to cut off the clutch all the way to the collar. I did check the crank run out to make sure there wasn't serious damage. I don't think this is a Pro issue. I think it is a P-85 problem.

Broken clutch

If you look at the pictures carefully you can see beach marks and chevrons in the broken area. These are indications of what happend, there must have been something left in the radius that caused a stress riser that led to this failure. It's hard to really tell from the pics. It's probably a manufacturing problem not from installing it. IMO

I think some dealers just push the sled out door without checking any thing, when I got mine home the first thing I did was check the clutch maybe had 40lbs at the most, track took 4 full turns to even get close, chain case 3 full turns, and two full turns on the steering so the bars would be straight. I have been riding for close to 30 years and every sled I have bought I have had to do something that should have been done during the dealer set up.

My 800 Rush clutch mounting bolt had less then 40 ft/lbs, at 2 miles.
I torqued the clutch bolt to only 70 FT/lbs, not 80 ft/lbs. As the bolt kept rotating, rotating & stretching, I thought that I was going to twist the clutch mounting bolt off at just 70 ft/lbs.
After 200 miles the clutch bolt is still tight at 70 ft/lb.

During last minute 07 D7 Dragon fall testing in Alaska Polaris had several P85 clutches break off & several engine burnt downs in min of -25*F temps.
All have a Safe winter; Rich

Was looking at a friends air bubble moved it and the little bolt on the grabbar fell off.I looked at the springs and one wasnt even in the bottom mount. Looking at the clutch and the secondary clutch was shimed tight. There was no free play. What will be next?

Just got off the mountain, ending up towing my Pro out. Same symptoms as Tree Boss. Pulling hard, 8200 rpm, but dies when I stop. Rollers aren't even touching the weights. Hope that bugger comes off in one piece.
