Primary clutch issues?

Where’s everyone getting the weight pins for the adapt? I got everything either here or on the way but the pins themselves. Thinking I might have to just make some to get riding again.

The pins are the same ones that hold your rollers in on the spider, however the pins is what everyone is waiting on. I just have a good connection that had the adapt clutches in stock and he has some complete.
He has 30 Adapt clutches in stock and is robbing the pins out of the rollers to make the others complete.

Stingraymods posted on another thread that he was using pins from the Yamaha clutches and was working fine.

Clarke42 his secret may be his limited amount of trails….
If full shift out is where they contact and stress it’s more likely high speed than deep or steep is to blame. (Also full throttle open air pins are suspect.)

Our riding is also rarely on trail, as in less than a couple miles if any.

I have a 19 with 4900, one with 3800, one other just under 3000 that are all original clutches. All have been ran hard, but never high speed down trails or across meadows. My clutch maintenance consists of springs and weights as needed, I wave a magic flashlight across them to check for damage occasionally.

I don’t ride many trails, and definitely don’t go wide open down the trails or across meadows, but on the last ride I had before noticing the crack in my clutch I did 3-4 uphill drag races in a row. It was pretty firm snow, but fairly steep so I definitely don’t think I was hitting full shift. That was the only thing I did out of the ordinary from a usual ride though, before finding the crack, and there was no noticeable crack prior to that ride. Don’t know that any of its related, but it’s more food for thought.

sounds like its luck of the draw, I absolutely love the way the team works but with so many people having problems its a bit of a black eye for cat. Most people are just riding these sleds like they are meant to be ridden. Hopefully the adapt is as smooth as the team but more durable.

Dropped my 19 Alpha off at the dealer today. My clutch started squealing really bad yesterday and at one point stopped forward motion. I was going slow up a logging road with rpm's around 3900-4000. This is the same situation on 3 prior clutches that had a bearing go out on. I have 2593 miles on the sled and looks like there will be clutch number five going on. I lucky to have the 4-year warranty on this sled. The issue seems to come to light at low speeds and going uphill boondocking. At higher speeds it works fine. This is getting old!!! One note, the belts are in great condition and the dealer has said they are not part of the problem. They have replaced them with the original style clutch.

They put a new clutch (old Style) back on under warranty. The adapt clutch was not available at that time according to Cat. Will see how long this one will last but at least It's back on the mountain.

Primary cover bolt snapped on my '18 with a Team clutch. This is clutch #2, 1800+ miles on it. No sheave cracks. The cover tab at the broken bolt is gone now. Damage is concentrated to the cover itself. I limped the sled out. Got home, removed broken bolt threads with a dental pick. Going to replace the cover bolts and shop for a replacement clutch, call this the spare clutch (keep in truck). Pictures show the damaged cover tab and beat up mating surface on the moveable/tower, as well as an undamaged tower & cover tab for reference.

I picked up a clutch from a 21 Mountain Max that had 200 miles on it, got a good deal and had ZRP cover and Boondocker adjustables. Noticed there was a steel ring machined into lower part of moveable sheave where the older ones that were all aluminum tended to start to crack from. I have 2018 clutches on both my sleds and they don't have this. Put it on my N/A sled with new ported cylinders and some other power adders and works great. Wonder if this change is limited to the Yamaha or did the 21+ Cat also have the steel ring. Sorry no pics but it is about 1/4-3/8 thick and is the part that also slides across the bearing. Maybe they got the crack issue figured out before the Adapt came out.

Just looked up part numbers and 18-19 clutches are different part # from 20-21. The pics in this thread of cracked 2020 clutches don't have the steel ring like the 21 on mine. CountryCat parts shows same replacement part # for 20 and 21. Looked up the breakdown on Adapt clutch and it shows a moveable sheave bearing that looks like the steel part in my 21 moveable sheave. No longer available of course. Also wonder if the idler bearing from the Adapt is the same as the one in my 18 Team Clutch. The clutch I removed to install the 21 clutch was working good and has no cracks but the bearing does not feel as smooth as I would like and wouldn't mind changing it but there is no breakdown for parts for the older Team.

The bearings are not interchangeable between the 2

Well I changed out my clutch thinking spring conditions would make for a good break-in for the clutch and belt. Then we got 5 feet of snow in 2 days... So hopefully this WOT break-in doesn't come back to haunt me ?. Also, opted for another Team instead of the adapt.

What was wrong with your old one?
