PRIEST LAKE AREA

P
CAN ANYONE GIVE SOME INPUT ON THIS AREA. OUR CLUB HAS BOOKED THE SUNDANCE MTN LODGE FOR 2-27-11 THRU 3-5-11 FOR OUR ANNUAL WEST TRIP. HOW ARE THE RIDING CONDITIONS THIS TIME OF YEAR? GIVEN A NORMAL SNOW SEASON OF COURSE.
ALSO I HAVE FOUND THAT SLED RENTAL IN THIS AREA IS NOT THE BEST. I SOLD MY 07 M-1000 LAST SPRING AND NOT BUYING THIS YEAR SO NEED TO RENT. ALL I FIND IS 500 SABRE CAT OR 550 SKI-DOOS AND AT $200.00 PER DAY (HIGH PRICE SINCE JACKSON HOLE OR WEST YELLOWSTONE IS RENTING 2011 E-TECH 800 THIS YEAR FOR $200.00 PER DAY). ANY SUGGESTIONS ON MAYBE M-7 OR 8 OR SUMMIT 600 OR 800?
THANKS BUNCH FOR YOUR INPUT:wine:

That is a great time to ride Priest Lake. The East side of the lake has it all...from Wild to Mild. Best bet is to try to hook up with some locals to help you find the honey holes...because there are plenty of them.

Sled rental on the East side is Cavanaughs (North of Coolin). They usually have a couple "real" sleds to rent. Priest Lake PowerSports is the best on the West side. Rentals isn't a huge business in Priest. Most people that do rent up there are non-sledders wanting to putt-putt around on the trails. Mountain sleds are pretty limited and will be more expensive.

THANKS FOR YOU INFO. I CHECKED CAVANAUGH'S AND THEY SAID THEY ARE NEW OWNERS AND NOT RENTING ANYMORE. PRIEST LAKE POWER SPORTS ARE THE ONES WHO QUOTED $200.00 A DAY FOR SKI-DOO 550 FAN COOLED.
HOPEING TO GET SOMEONE AROUND HERE TO RENT ME THEIR 800 RENAGADE
BACKCOUNTRY, BUT NOT A SURE THING YET, SO WAS LOOKING FOR MORE OPTIONS

priest lake is not west yellowstone or anything like that. We don't get the crowds. This is a place you need to bring everything with you. Great riding but this is rural idaho. There are not a lot of services here. There is enough to get buy, but rentals just don't really exist.

The riding is awesome if you like backcountry stuff.

THANKS: BACKCOUNTRY BOONDOCKING IS MY FAVORITE, HOWEVER I WILL BE WITH SOME PEOPLE WHO HASN'T RODE MUCH OFF TRAIL. I LIVED IN SALEM ,OR FOR 5 YEARS AND GOT INTO THE FUN BOONDOCKING STUFF. NOW I LIVE BACK IN INDIANA BUT OUR CLUB HAS TAKEN TRIPS WEST FOR APPROX 15 TO 18 YEARS, SO WE KNOW WHAT IT'S ABOUT
WELL I GUESS I WILL JUST HOPE I CAN USE ONE OF MY FRIENDS SLED SINCE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE MUNCH IN THE RENTAL GAME THERE.

Nice pics Tim!

You might want to check with area towns like Sandpoint, Coeur d' Alene and Spokane for rental options. Have you talked to the people at the Sundance? They might be able to lead you to a sled?

Priest is a good place for a mix set of riders. A lot of play areas right off the trail. If you want to go where Tim's pictures are from?? Well, not so much.

You might try Vinnie at Priest Lake Motor Worx over on the west side of the lake. They dont normally rent sleds, but he might be able to do something for you or point you in the direction of a real sled to rent.
443 2020. For easy to reach play areas, try up Lost Creek, which is over by where you are staying. Its groomed all the way in and there is some real fun stuff to play on. Echo Bowl usually has a freeway practically paved into it and can be fun during the week when its not packed with people. Best riding is Trapper Creek area, but its not for the faint of heart.

Scoutman took the words out of my mouth. Call Vinnie at PL Motor Worx. He is going to rent some sleds this year. I believe he will have a couple of M cats and at least one 800 RMK. He's a great guy. Better book the sleds soon. 1 208 443-2020

Road Ride Pics 10/30/10 Priest Lake

:face-icon-small-tonWent up Lost Creek today with a rifle and the kids old Powder Special in hopes of a road ride or a deer. About 16" at 5400 ft but starting to melt pretty fast. Found enough snow to put on a few miles and for Jr. to get stuck. Lots of fun!!!!

X the tracks up the Pencil were mine, and the lone soilder standing next to his stuck sled would Be D-Tripp he just couldnt hang that time ..

That was a good ride even after having to pull mike hyde out due to lack of steering ability.

As for the area there is lots to cover,

I would be willing to maybe take a few of your group members for a tour , well the ones that think they could hang....

The terain up there can make or break a guy. i have taken guys in there that weren't sure on there devotion to sleding and made them. Hence D-Tripp, hooked him bad, his first time up there was great. And others i have almost seen tears in there eyes, hence they have never wanted to ride with my group again. Not such a good day.

I would also suggest maybe loading up one day and head into Romanose lakes, good fun over there toooo....

Jump on the chance to ride with Nitro! He will make sure you have a good day and look out for ya.

Spicy why does that pic always find its way on the forums??? Ya thats me and I guess it shouldnt surprise me, thats how I spend most of my day:camera:

For the record: I have laid tracks thru the pencil:face-icon-small-coo
