Powerclaw track on a pro?

It works great! Theres a few threads on here about it. One just a page or two back. I believe i read on here at one point that Carl's sells a driver/track combo, but not 100% sure

I ran it last year with modified "normal" extrovert drivers. Upgraded to avids this year. Mountianhorse and Robby at avid designed one that has the extro on the outside and two rows of introverts on the inside so it drives off of the nubs it's suppose to and has the extros for just the anti-ratchet. After talking to Robby I opted for the 8 tooth. Some say they prefer to modify the chaincase and run a 7 tooth for more clearance. It's debatable if it makes a differance. I figured with out wetter snow in ak any extra space is packed with ice. It might make a differance in lighter snow though.

I'll bet with a 7tooth you could stuff the new 2.6" power claw under it....

Like M1k said... Works great on the pro... 8 tooth or better yet.. 7 tooth with the chaincase mod.

My favorite all around deep-snow track is the "new style" challenger Extreme 9174-153" and the 9175-162"... both require a 7 tooth 3" pitch driver ... but are well worth it.

OK just asking, never have had a power claw myself. Is there a difference that you see on the hill and actually feel with better grab, having a power claw on a pro. Just wondering about the new 2.6 with 7 tooth drivers on the pro, much more room than a 3", whats your thoughts??

Power claw

The power claw doesn't make as much difference on the pro as it does 2010 & older rmks for steep & deep style riding. In my opinion it isn't worth the extra money. It also makes for faster down hill descents. Always fun when tree riding. If you still want to go for the power claw, the best price I found on new tracks was from the arctic cat dealer in baker or. I bought my drivers from Carl's & installed everything myself on my 2011 pro 163.

Curious for those that have run this what kind of improvements you are seeing and in what snow conditions? I really feel the PRO track works good in our snow around here.

I run the powerclaw here on the east coast. For are type of snow conditions the powerclaw hooks up better, are snow is more like ice and concrete then bottomless powder. I did find that the stock track worked better in some snow conditions, but the powerclaw was better overall. It also held up better to stumps and rocks where the 5.1 lost lugs and tore easier.

That's about how it is for me in ak. It's not ice and concrete, but definatly heavier than Montana snow. The stock track shines in dry fluff, for everything else the power claw hooks up better and floats better.

i spoke with chris at carls a few days ago (helpful guy) and he said they had great results running the PC with 8tooth and that it makes a big difference over the stock track noticable seat of the pants and sled to sled

he thought it robbed less power than the camo ex which made me think because my experience (same as MH) the camo ex is the best all around track out there for my riding zone
not sure what to do i'm trying to figure out what mods to do to my 11 since i plan to leave the engine alone (warranty)

like said above the pro does extremely better with the stock track than a dragon would

Hi Wellfed - if the PC robs less power I am not sure why you conclude he camo ex is the best for your riding zone ..

i think he was saying that the conversation with chris made him thing about the PC b/c he has had such good results with the CE.

i ran a PC on my 11 for two years. loved it. for AK we had an exceptionally dry snow year last year, (which was spectacular btw) and i can't say i noticed giving up anything to the stock 5.1 on the crazy deep days. all other days it definitely hooks up better. it was particularly apparent on a spring ride late last year. i could actually stop and still had good control of the sled going downhill where two other buddies on 5.1s were pretty not having a good time. both capable riders and both had some rather sketchy downhill descents. before then i had decided to just run the 5.1 on the 13 but that day definitely made my reconsider. now for my preference, i don't like combo drivers so the PC 2.25 and 8t 3.0 pitch drivers on the pro worked great. (although an extremely tight fit) zero ratcheting issues. but if i was going to for a new track i would want to get the 3.0 pitch CE or the new 2.6 PC which means i have to run 7 tooth drivers and my guess is involute only would probably have some ratcheting issues simply due to the less contact surface. so i guess i would have to just bite the bullet and trust that MH knows what he is talking about with these new combo drivers... :face-icon-small-win

darens

yeah chris at carls was tempting me with his reveiw of the PC on the pro
i have no experience with other tracks on my pro
i did have a camo ex on my dragon and loved it but the pro and dragon are very different sleds when it comes to floatation (getting on top of the snow )

most of my buddies run ski doos and those tracks work great here in Oregon

i think a 155 3'' would be fun to try but MH tells me it won't be around till next year and may cost close to a GRAND
so i'm still trying to decide what track to run i might run the stock 5.1 but i'd like to try something with a little more bite

I put a PC on my turbo dragon,,worked great got on top fast never trenched worked everywhere, then put it on my pro, and that sled then became a trench monster, stuck everywhere, it sucked went back to the stock POO track not going back! But I do ride deep DRY snow though!

pretty sure they make a 156 3" that would work...

is that in a 15'' wide ?
i'll do some checking thanks

i wonder if thats the older style (not the lighter single ply?)

I know you've mentioned this before....by chance what skid were you/are you running with the PC? I trust you completely but this is the only report like this I have heard with regards to the PC on the Pro.

I agree the 5.1 works way better on the Pro than the IQ-RAW however, the PC works that much better on the Pro.

We have quite a few major iced out, through the tight trees, with 6-10 foot iced out snowbanks on each side goat trails. And the 5.1 can be down right scary for some lads who find themselves going backwards. In these situations, the PC is like having chains on tires compared to a 5.1.

The 5.1 peforms a little better in 1 catagory only: Super deep light fluff, sugary pow. In anything other than this 1 condition, the PC outpeforms the 5.1 10 fold.
