power valve cable length ?

Can some one tell me what the proper length is supposed tobe on the power valve cables for the M1000. IE how much is supposed to be sticckeing out at the the end of the sheeve next. also does any one else have probelms with the cable covers melting off and if I buy new ones are they any better or is there a different part to update with.

You can buy the silver spiral wrap stuff that comes on the newer sleds. Seems to do the trick. Costs like $3, your cat dealer should have it

I just replaced my clutch side power valve cable and had a question along these lines. The U shaped stem that comes out of the top of the valve rotates where as the one I did not change does not. Is that something that's fixed when you adjust the tension on the cable?
