Power Claw Track Major Freying

I think its just the 09s, but its easy to check just pop out your air box. Is it possible that they hired one of the designers of the XP. Lose a couple ounces and the integrity of the sled at the same time, whats next paper mache (spelling?) A-Arms?

dog bone brace

It is only left out on the 09's. Its only a $3 part, order one and put it in, dont take that long.

I just checked my track for wear and on the clutch side of the sled the track has wore into the plactic wear pad. No track damage yet. track is running aligned so I am going to tighten that side of the track just a bit to see if it will make the track ride center between the two sides

Also anyone a part number for the dog bone that was left out?

Yes - don't expect A/C to do anything about it. After 1000 miles they are probably hoping we just have to buy a new track from them - make more money! All of the testing they do , and the amount of money we spend on these things , one would think they would rectify something so simple prior to mass production. They could have used huck rivets there to alleviate it. Simple.

The only time they recall something or offer to fix something is when it may cost them money in a lawsuit ; i.e. them not tightening a nut enough on a fuel line that could cause a fire !

Who cares if it costs us time and money to fix their screw-ups. They obviously don't.

I've got just 80 miles on my M1000 and noticed the same problem. Between the bulkhead ripping out because they left that dogbone out between the lower A arms, and the ridiculous low to mid range bog and now the track fraying, I cant help but wonder why I bought this thing. Dont get me wrong, when its working it works well but this isnt what I signed on for. And as far as getting anything on waranty, good luck!

I have same problem on my X/Fire. Track is wearing majore grooves in the plastic on both sides!! Why is the track walking back and forth so much? Check alignment and it is different every time I look at it. 80 very easy miles on when I started to notice the fraying and checked the alignment. I also noticed bad fraying inside each and every track window. Are we dealing with a driveshaft issue here or what. Whats the deal??

track fraying

i noticed my track was doing the same.if i haden't rolled it over"under carrage inspection"in the middle of no where.i would of probaly not noticed it. seen it at about 75mi. 150mi.it looks like it's getting worse.will just run it and see what happens.will check my rivets when im with my sled this weekend. MB.

Well lets hear from some dealers!!! I assume all of you who are having this problem have contacted your dealer right. I would like to here from folks at MMsports, Racinstation, Rexburgmotor sports, Mototech etc and see if they are at least hearing or have seen this problem. I would also like to know if any dealers have contacted cat to get a response from them. As far as I'm concerned it IS a safety issue, no different than the loose nut from the gas line. If your track comes apart from freying at 50mph and you loose control that's a safety issue. Look what happened to Michelon I believe when they had issues with their radial tires coming apart. HUGE recal and a few lawsuits from people getting injured from blowing tires. I have not seen this on my 09 M8 yet but I will keep an eye on it. As for the dog bone guys are referring to what is it? I am new to owning a cat so I do not know what everybody is referring to. Picts would be good. Thanks.

Same problem - looks like hell after 60 miles.

What is it going to look like after 600 miles?

Wouldnt this be the same as a motor knock just to have it go out at the end of the year?
:(
:o

Some info on the dog bone

I don't have my sled at my house so I can't take a picture but. If you pull the air box out, its right in the front of the sled, there is one torx head screw and a little piece of aluminum holding it down. After pulling the air box look down in the opening and you will see two bolts, one for each a arm, there was a dog bone shaped piece of metal there on previous years. Its not much but it is obviously needed. here is the part number 4606-402, it really is only like $3, but you will probably want a little bit longer bolts, to make sure that they reach the end of the nut.

here is a link to the part it is no. 11= http://www.countrycat.net/pages/parts/viewbybrand/3/ArcticCat.aspx

Dog Bone thats funny cause it kinda feels like their using one on all the new owners.

I wouldn't worry about it since it is a single ply? When I saw this worn out looking track I couldn't believe it was a Powerclaw. The edges looked haggarrd as if it was a cat scratching post with tattered carpet edges. I think they should have put more rubber between the outer edge and the first strand. I am sure the demo had about 600-700 mi. on it and was for sale. Just keep trimming the edges back to where it is a 14.75 wide track and all will be well. At least it will be lighter! I wan't to put one on my 900 but wanted it in a 156" version for the skid setback to clear the exvolutes. Hope all goes well, And no other major weakness show up! What do the Skidoo's and Polaris single ply's look like after time? Do they have wider tunnels? I wonder with the outer nubs being trimmed down it lets it wander more with the 2 wheel kit as opposed to 3 or 4 wheels?

I have 4 wheels on X/fire and doing the same thing. Track is definitly walking back and forth as I have grooves in plastic on BOTH sides, also both sides of track windows are fraying.

the XP's were hitting the bolts for the rear bumper last year doing the same thing. This year they have rounded torx bolts to help that problem. I know that people are checking alignment, but are you check track tension also? If a track is too loose it will walk a little.

Another question, What does the 90 durometer track off the HCR's look like? Same I would guess since they are dragging on rivets. I know there are a couple of guys on here that mounted them to there 900's, Need some feedback!

Mike

The HCR track looks the same just a harder durometer. Its the PowerClaw a little wider than the Camoplast? Isn't the front part of the tunnel the same as the 08'? Why would this be an issue only this year and not last?
