Avalanche in Buck Creek

Three of my friends and myself were caught in this slide on Friday. We were really lucky to have not gotten hurt or killed. Scariest moment of my life. Pics and a video can be seen at www.mtavalanche.com. The other sledder that was caught was not a member of our party and triggered it. He did not know we were there when it happened. We were in the group of trees about halfway down the slope on the left.

Freemont pass last year in april, my buddy was at the top of it when it went. His sled dropped out from under him and fell about 6 feet straight down onto some rocks as the snow diappeared from under him. Bent the rear suspension and broke the hodd and some other parts. I was at the bottom getting ready to head into the woods. Pretty freaky.

I've got to add to this post by Graveler. probably the most knarly display of natures power i've seen yet in the backcountry. just unbelievable to the amount of distruction caused by the three sleds on the trail into the Gallagher. WOW!

Great pics......like seeing the slab avy's, and the point releases (pics, or from a distance ONLY).

Thanks all for sharing those. :) I need to resize and get some up from this year too.

The Cooke Avy picture is just more of the same. It is just stupid to see people climb those chutes time and time again. Every year it slides multiple times, yet every midwesterner feels the need to climb them. I think as a riding community we need to be more proactive in bringing awareness to those who dont use the forums or dont know the danger level. It is one thing to post pictures but it is another to pull a guy aside climbing known slide spots and warn him. I would rather spend my time, being from WI myself, warning riders from the midwest or west how foolish it is to be marking some chutes, hills, etc... over swithcing over my beacon and digging. We are all a big family out there so I geuss it cant be stressed enough to look out for your fellow riders as you would for your own son.

South east of Current Creek Peak, Utah. Slide broke away five feet in front of me. Maybe 20 feet from making it over the top. Breakline only 3 feet deep. Sled landed on me once. Soar and bruised leg was only injury.
Sorry for the camera phone quality. All I had

Here's a small one from Cottonwood pass 2 sundays ago. I was climbing it when I saw the snow shifting, it broke as soon as I turned out. You have to watch it when you run through the leading edge of the slide as it's coming down, it's a pretty big jump if you try to hit it too fast.

just a little sluff , it was the 4th sled up that cut across the face that knocked it off. tell newer riders that they really should keep the sidehillin to a minimum until your about done w/ a certain face or bowl. my sled was parked just as you see it now, facing the hill. watching it was beautiful. like slow moving water. obviously it couldnt go anywhere or hurt anyone, probably one the few that you can say that about. b safe

that is so sweet how the snow is falling over the rocks like a waterfall almost...very cool

whistler

the "boulder" was part of a cornice that let loose off Mt Callahan near Whistler, B.C.. I think it was a year ago. It is surprising it didnt start a bigger avy.
The area has many big avalanches every year. The north side of Ring Mtn just to the south slid a few years back. It ran about 1/2 mile and had blocks the size of houses. The debri pile was 25 to forty foot deep.
I have seen other massive slides in that area
