Possible fix for xp belt problem

Ok guys here it goes I have two identical xp 800 154 everest One has about 80miles on it and no belt problems and I broke in two sd belts one with white and one with orange lettering. The other sled has 160 miles on it and same thing broke in two belts one of each cother of lettering. The sled with 80 miles on it is the wifes and I have had my buddy and little brother riding it to break it in so no hard use but was mostly ran on the trail and powder meadows and a little boondocking no climbing, powder about 2 ft deep I have been riding in the snowies and buff pass. No issues with this sled and no belt problems have made sure both belts were adjusted so that you could see the cord just above the top of the secondary per sd owners manual and have the clicker set on 5 with no weights I am running between 8000 and 10,000 feet approxmitly.

My sled same set up and no problems until at about 140 miles I had to set the clickers at three becouse I was over reving otherwise everything the same. that day when i changed the clickers is when i started running hard doing big long hill climbs in about a foot of powder at about 9000 to 10500+ ft altitude and I did not stop to let cool or mess with anything in fact it was running great and climbing everthing i pointed it up. Got back to the truck and noticed long strings hanging out of the bottom of the foot well on clutch side look at cluch and belt and the string is comming out of belt and string fibers all over the motor and engine compartment. So I am working on it tonight trying to figure out what is happening and relize that my belt has moved down below proper adjustment so i figure belt got hot and streched so I put on spare and realize that I can not get the cluch to adjust enough to get belt at proper adjustment. pull belts off other sled and try those belts and finaly get it adjusted right. So conclusion is the belts are not wide enough once they break in and stretch a little there is not enough adjustment in the deflection to get right adjustment. So I think if I can get wider belts that I can keep at the right deflection once broken in and
streched it would solve the problem of the belts comming apart.

Next issue i noticed is that I was playing with the flapper valve that lets air into the air box when the air intake is clogged and decided to take a look at so i pulled the air box vent screen off to get to it and found a big pile of belt fibers tangled around the flapper in the air box thank god I found that otherwise it would of got sucked into my motor and that would have been bad news and that got me thinken about wyoming ta and few other guys that blew there motors and thought maybe that could have some part in why there motors blew. Any way sorry for the long story here but just wanted to let everybody know what i found and see if anybody else comes to the same conclusion. :D

I'm just curious. Why are you guys claiming 'no problems' with mild trail riding, no climbing or powder riding?????? Isn't that what it's all about? Being able to ride the sled hard in good conditions? I've been through this to some extent with my '07 M-1000. It's hard on belts, but if you want to ride them hard, there are consequences. Clutches shouldn't have to be adjusted every 50 miles to get prolonged life out of a belt. I wish the manufactuers would put more effort into this. I'm not bashing doo, I think all sleds have their problems and the people testing them for the factory all year either need to ride them harder or get their points across more clearly. my $.02

I siad no problems becouse ther was none we did do some powder riding and a boondocking in the first 10 to 80 miles just no long pulls hillclimbing mostly just short climbs and things like that I only started having problems when i was doing alot of big long hill climbs and i was doing it non stop for about 1 hour and then on and off for another couple of hours. i also forgot to mention that the belt did not come a part and i could still use it I just cant get enough deflection adjustment out of the secondary to get the belt back to the right deflection.

I understand that. I just think the manufactuers should put a little more effort towards issues such as clutching. It's nice that they want to produce the lightest, strongest, best machine out there. A little more attention to detail would be nice is my point.

I agree They should pay more attention and as a former 900 rmk owner i have been through this before but i will say that my xp is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than my 900 ever was or could of been.

yes Brp and my dealer are aware of the lack or little adjustment on the secondary for belt tension, and like you say once the belt is broken in and streches a bit we run out, taking the belt out of its operating range

i have went threw 3 skidoo belts so far, and now have tried the 803xs from ultimax, 70 miles on this belt and it looks like new

Brp said we should have a bulitin come out by the end of the year for the updated fix for this problem, might be using a wider belt like they did on the 1000cc

dealer told me a couple of guys have machined the secondary. taken 60tho off the bottom surfaces were they touch when closed, giving you that much more belt tension for the belts... they also said they will warrenty all blown belts once the new update comes out, so hang onto them:D

these xp sleds really rock and other than this dumb problem this will be the best overall sled i have ever owned out of the box
