Porting belt cover

I ported mine with a hole saw. I haven't had any issues since doing mine but I didn't get to carried away with the hole saw either. I am sure it helps but I can't say I noticed a difference. This is the best picture I could find.

less strength in the cover in case something went wrong?
more under hood temp?

just throwing those possibilities out there I don't know

geezu H Ausm....what the hell are you using for polish???? that looks killer!! is that the stock aluminum heat shield on the pipe or something else? good job man

X2 that looks awsome, I tried doin mine like that but couldnt find anything that would work THAT well. You must have sanded it down with a fine grite or steel wool then polished it? Great job man!

hi
if you run the side cover vent kit (moflow) and use a clutch vent then when you port the clutch cover you can get alot cooler air to the belt for longer belt life
i use to go through 2 to 3 belts a year now i have run the same belt for 2 seasons

hope this helps

i would just be careful, if you blow the belt at high speeds things could get bad quickly...

Not worth the risk. With correct venting this doesn't need to be dun. When that belt blows at high speed it will destroy the cover and possibly the pipe and power valve cables. JMHO

pfft, whatever pieboy!!!

I've blown belts a plenty under my swiss cheesed super duper ported clutch cover... And never an issue. Yeah, the particles might go farther, but the cover is still pretty darn strong.

Porting the cover just helps the venting.

Some day we'll let you come blow belts with us piehole... you'll see.:p

btw, where the F is my pink goggle holder, let's get on it bud, I'm waiting.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've got my order into the Susan G. Komen foundation. I'll get it to ya as soon as they come in.:face-icon-small-win

Last time out there you ported your Powerclaw, I guess I should have looked under the hood too. Your keeping secrets from me.:(

You guys figure putting some holes in your belt gaurd is going to weaken it? Did anyone notice how lame the tabs are at the back that hold the belt gaurd in place? I gotta agree with backcountry, some schrapnel might go farther, but thats about it.

That's funny! I've absolutely grenaded belts under my cheese-holed cover where you can't find a piece bigger than a square inch and guess what? I'm here to write about it..............

I ported my 07 m1000 clutch cover with about 50 3/8 holes then dented them up so water can not get on belt by running down cover also running side vent have not blown a belt yet change to a new belt every year cover feels strong still

Imho.....i have worked in a cat shop and have seen many defective clutches come apart in pieces. Most of the time little pieces of a tower and cover. They are small enough to go through most of the holes i have seen people punch in their covers for venting. I have seen sleds where if there was anything less than a complete cover there people would possibly have been seriously hurt. Jist of the story....you will never see me doing this based on first hand experience-----u never know.

If you want more air flow to and from your clutches put some vents in the fenderwell. This will allow cold air to flow in the front and hot air out past your knee. Works better than side vents IMO.

went ahead and did itand the belt seems to be cooler after long pulls.the safety factor makes sence but every time if had a clutch fail its always given me lots of warning.belts not so much warning.

I put 2 computer fans sucking the hot air upwords on mine. Seems to have helped and didn't cost more than 25 bucks.
