This was one of the dumbest things ever. This reduced the square inches of flotation and weakened the cords in the track. The big thing was it would reduce weight, Wow. maybe a pound. Also it would let the snow out of the track, BS. You got more snow in the suspension. Ported tracks are stupid and just a fad. Maybe next we will here of a ported Belt.

I've run a ported track, on a 151 with 2x1.25" holes per pitch it took off 2.1lbs. The track rolled easier and the skid held noticeably less snow when sitting side by side with a similar sled without a ported track.

So....any other ignorant views you want to share with us?

Agreed!!! Only down side was don't try waterskipping very far. Other than that, I have no regrets from porting, only alot of pluses.

I have found the opposite with 2 identical XP's....non ported track consistently has less snow in the skid than the ported powdermax. especially when in heavy wet snow

that's interesting, I guess it just depends on that day's conditions then. I'd say the ported track always held less snow or in some conditions the same, but never more.

yeah what a stupid idea, take the heaviest piece of rotating mass on your sled and make it lighter with less rolling resistance. god knows how much weaker it must be, have always worried that my track windows are about to come apart everytime i go out for a ride. lets not forget about water skipping, i always look for a nice river that is not frozen over to ride in when its 20 degrees outside! i know when my track is spinning at what known speed the snow is saying "hey this track is ported, so instead of being shot out the back by a paddle lets jump through one of the holes and hang out in the skid" snow is a lot smarter than most peeps realize...

Sandman,
For the AK crew open water crossings are pretty normal...even in coldest parts of winter. Overflow on swamps, open leads on rivers and creeks...sea ice...you name it.

Not arguing, just sayin.

wow SBC while I dont agree with the statement about ported tracks even morons are entitled to their opinion. If you think this thread is what you call starting problems then you are sadly sadly mistaken.

Well, it's just like that dingus (snowprince) wich was an alter. he posted about how much Diesel trucks suck and got a firestorm brought apon him. This tit was using the same method. You don't just start off a thread like that. it would be like me saying;

chevys are just a buntch of POS's. the people that build them and drive them are stupid! what person could honestly think a chevy would do everything a real truck could do. What next? hyundai making trucks!?

See, altho I don't care for chevys much. I can state it in a more appropriate way then that!

I don't have any experience with this ported track thing, but at first glance, it seems like a counter productive idea. I mean, the ultimate ported track would then just be ......wheels??!!! Right??

Ok, I don't get it....

haha, well along those lines of thinking, a track delete would be the ultimate power adder... dropping 50 lbs out of the skid alone would be huge... :eek:;):D:D

Might not have the best flotation when your done tho:eek:
