Poo or Doo, Which manufacturer is smarter....

Is it Doo for flooding the market with xp's or Poo for not flooding the market with dragons......If the xp is turning out to be a percieved problem child like the 900 was percieved, then it could spell disaster if you own a Doo....
On the other hand, not many Dragons will be on the market. If it has issues, less for Poo to deal with, if it doesn't then it'll be a sled to get your hands on next year....
Let the rebutal begin....

I think Poo. Limit the production will keep demands high for sales next year. "IF" the Dragon lives up to its rep. Unlike models of the past ultra's & 900's for starters.

Doo is doing the same thing with their line up as polaris did. Too many options, too many variations. Yea, allows you to get the sled you want, but it makes it confusing trying to keep track of what options were available on what sleds.

Doo has a very loyal following (same as Poo did). People will run out and buy the newest and the best because it's yellow and says Ski-Doo on it.

Doo WILL goof up. Same as Polaris did. It is GOING to happen. The trick is to know when you buy new and when to wait. I personally will never buy a first year sled just because of the 900 RMK. For those that ran out and bought an XP, thanks. We need test riders to see if the chassis will actually stand up.

i don't care if the XP motor falls apart, I am just interested in the chassis. If it works you will see the other 3 copy (too one degree or another) the XP chassis. Good for all of us.

You have to be kidding.... you really think anyone really limits the sales of something if they didnt have to? sj

Yes, they do. Can you say Harley Davidson?
Allows you to keep manufacturing costs down. After the 05/06 polaris backlog of sleds I don't think you will see them flooding the market.

They can make good money and not have a huge inventory left over by better control over their production.

If Polaris is truly holding the Dragon's back to keep the demand higher, then yes, they are fairly smart for doing so. However, if it is simply because they under estimated the demand for the product and can't get their production up to meet this higher demand, then I would say "shame on you" Polaris.

As for Ski-Doo, I hope the new XP turns out to be good. I hate to see guys spending $11k on a sled and not being extrememly happy with it:D

track~

Harley is exaclty what I was thinking about. If demand is high values stay high. Job security.

In 2003, the big hype for Harley was it was their 100th anniversary, and bikes would be sold out early. Dealers were taking deposits a couple of years in advance, some were selling above MSRP. HD saw that the market would bear a price increase (a substantial one at that) so they upped the prices as to what the market dictated. They flooded the market with over priced bikes. The next year you could buy a 2004 cheaper than a 2003 was just one year earlier. The 2003's are starting to hit the market now, people either selling to get out of the bike thing or up grading to a new one, are seeing how badly they got screwed by the whole 100th thing.
3 weeks ago, Harley shut one of their factories down for a week because of lagging sales. I think i read this in fouled plug.

That is for sure, look how the company's copied the rider forward chassis of the rev. First of all they bashed it for being uncomfortable (polaris), then they lost a lot of sales so they decided to copy the chassis in one way or the other. Take a picture of an rmk and hold it up to a picture of a 06 rev, they look a lot alike. If it weren't for doo, poo would still have trailing arms. I hope doo keeps pushing the envelope with chassis design and yamaha keeps pushing the four stroke technology, these two companys have the balls to lead the industry and not tag along like the other two.

Yep....Doo did not flood the market with the first year of the Rev chassis.....I would say now they are riding the wave of hype. What is really new on the xp this year compared to last??? Haven't done my homework here, but all I can see is their hype with the weight and the design.
It seems the Dragon has been evolving over the last couple of years with chassis, motor, tunnel and track.
I'd say advantage to Poo going into 08-09....

You really DOO need to do your homework. The Dragon chassis is old, the motor is new(800). The XP is a new chassis with an old motor. My XP is an amazing performing sled. It is however, down at the delaership having the front "clip", or s-module replaced. That is the new chassis' NUN. WE WILL BE HEARING THE WORD S-MODULE ALOT. I predict 50% of the XP's sold will need this replaced. Someone at BRP is retarded, or has a really bad memory.

If Polaris could build and sell 10,000 800 Dragons they would have, right now they are trying to get the sleds to the 2000 who snowchecked them and haven't yet.The are not saving the snowmobile market they merely sold a handfull that they could build.

It's going to be Polaris making a big comeback while Doo loses market share.
Doo got one wave of us last year with an inferior product-clutch problems out the rear, crank shafts, camo lite trencher & a lot of minor issues-poor quality control and slow to fix anything. (Unless you count throwing more bad engines at those that lost them.)
Second year another wave bought the XP & it's light weight will soon be forgotten after another year of even more issues than in 07. Not only did Doo put out a sled that wasn't ready-they lied and said that they expected the issues with the proto's & would have them fixed by production-NOT! Lighter & stronger-give me a break!!!
BRP has a great sales oranization but I'm betting that they will lose a lot of customers after two stinkers in a row. Look what happened to Polaris. The sad thing is that a lot of folks that got the shaft with bad Poo's in 05/06 bought bad Doos in 07/08 so they really got hosed.
Polaris is putting out quality now-they had to change or go down the tubes. They stress quality, test religiously, & are limiting production to make sure that sleds are right. And P gives a three year warranty to back it all up.
Don't kid yourself there isn't that much real diff between the Cat, Poo or Doo-they can all be set up to ride better than anything we had 3 years ago.
I think a lot of us demand quality in a sled and are not hesitant to change brands to get it. No one in their right mind blows $10-15000 for a lemon, then fights problems all year instead of riding & then to top it all lose your a$$ when you go to sell.
That's why I think Poo will gain market share and Doo will lose!

Easy one DOO, poo pays royalities for the technology doo invents.
Case in point is electronic reverese, doo invented it poo pays a royalty for every sled it's on. Another case BRP bought the FICHT oil/fuel injection patent from OMC and licenses it to all the other two stroke out board manufactures who use it.
Who put first plastic skii's, altitude compenstation mountain bars on sled's
DOO.
Who was the very last manufacturer to put power valves on consumer sleds?
poo!

I was about to say same thing bout HD...But in this case I believe its a compound of things one being a possible control on market and the second just being a flat out screw up and under producing. I am leaning on the latter.

BTW, Do you think the Nintendo Wi is playing this game? I am 100% sure they are holding product back.
