polaris not warranting motors w/slp pipe

I'm not sure about the 08 and 09 updated sleds, i have a 2010 D8 155, and when I picked it up, the dealer told me the only mod I could do without voiding the warranty was V force reeds and the 2010 SLP can. Anything other than those 2 things will void teh warranty. I to wanted to put the SLP single pipe on, but teh dealer said it would void the warranty. Has anyone read about the 2010 SLP can, it doesnt state anything about a horsepower gain, just a weight savings of 5 lbs, Im guessing these engines are sensative to back pressure.

Only v-force reeds, your dealer is dumb (no offense), I called carls cycles and asked them what they are running on the 2010s and they are running a SLP single set-up NO v-force reeds. They are having problems with the reeds coming apart, plus for the money you really will not gain a whole lot with the v-force, I had them on my 09 and did not put them on my 2010 and it rocks. I put a single on my 2010 and we will see if it holds up.

It always gets blamed on the dealer. Why is that? If you guys actually worked in the industry you would be amazed at the lies and crap that customers try to cover up so they dont look stupid.

I would contact SLP and put the question to them. They work with Polaris on projects so should have some input. It won't be good for their business either. If only those with a pipe are failing then Polaris may have a point. I was told when mine was updated that Polaris wasn't going to warranty those with mods other than a can. (But if mine went the stock pipe would be on it when it hit the dealership)

Im not implying that its the dealers fault... Chit runs downhill. What I'm saying is that some dealers can be complete aholes to deal with. I lucked out and have a GREAT dealer that I can count on. Im having the same problems everyone else has and my dealer is the last person I blame (mostly blame myself for thinking they fixed the problems with the 800). Having a dealer that your comfortable dealing with makes your problems a lot easier to solve.

the only parts that can be installed are the vf-3 reeds and the slp can...that is stated right in the bulletin...several times actually...the reason those are ok is polaris has tested the motor/fuel system with them installed and found no detrimental issues....I had to put mine back bone stock to get the update done in the fall...including a new airbox, since mine had powdervalves in it, stock exhaust vrs. slp single, and the plenium in the hood..

So the question is........do you scrap $1500+ in perf parts and put up with an average running sled or keep the mods on and risk footing the bill on a rebuild? Unless you have a willing dealer to work with you, this looks to be the senario. Sounds like a horse apeice to me. As for me, my stuff is staying on and the PC5 will be on tomorrow.

slp pipe

Polaris better pull their head out of their butt and figure out what is actually wrong with their product. Just lost the ecu voltage reg. and capiciter. 450 miles on sled, just past warranty, 1000ft down in a canyon. Rode polaris for years switch to cat had NO issues at all for three years with them. Went back to Polaris "like the dealer" and sled but have had so many issues with the sled I'm ready to jump ship again. I think polaris is forgetting these are 11,000.00 we have spent on these machines, & that times are tough for the industries. Times are tough for everyone right now. Don't mess with the people trying to support them.. My riding partners are going to be gun shy to go riding with me afraid of having to help me get this ***** out of the hole again!!

ive been through a simular situation i put my sled back to stock took it to the dealer i told them what i had done to it they said they would try to help me out. i marked my headbolts plugs exhaust springs "dont trust anybody:D" sled i drove by the dealer everyday sled didnt move then i got a call 2weeks later saying they couldnt warranty it because i had line-x on my tunnel and it got hot thats why it blew up BS it never got hot never ever had a temp light come on ive never even run ice scratchers iam the guy thats in the back of the back of the pack putting snow on the tunnel and kicking snow in the skid every 4miles, i did have temp light come on once the very first time i got it.

yes i know i tried to get it warrantied even though i had mods, it was worth a shot to me. but to hear them say it was because of line-x was just rediculous. after getting it completely apart to find out i ran it lean

Normally I would disagree with MH on this one except for the fact that you are talking about a Pipe...that falls into the emmissions system which changes the rules of engagement a bit.

It is very clear under the Magnuson-Moss act that the mere presense of aftermarket parts can not void a warranty. It must be shown that the part clearly caused the problem..this applies to all consumer parts even computers with aftermarket memory chips.

http://www.impalaclub.com/naisso/magmoss.htm

However in re to Pipes... changing them possibly would fall under a violation of the "Clean Air act"..which states that if a part supplied by an aftermarket parts manufacture reduces the effectiveness of the vehicles emission controls. Tampering with emission controls is prohibited by federal law and may result in civil penalities.

http://www.lemon-law-explained.com/magnuson-moss-warranty-act.html

However..on page 122 of the 08 owners manual..Polaris clearly states...quote: " Should a failure occur during the warranty period resulting from the use of non-recommended products, warranty coverage may be denied.

Polaris states warranty excludes failures resulting from modified components; use of aftermarkets components resulting in failure....I think the key word here is "resulting in failure" now if you read the snow check 2nd year verbage...they change the verbage slightly but only state "failuire due to use of unauthorized parts or mods.

Once again...even Polaris doesnt state that the mere presence of a part will void a warranty. This would apply to most everything except for the Pipe and as that would be tampering with their EPA certified exhaust system

If your dealer stated that they wont authorise the repair have them put it in writing and state the reasons why...email can be used as a legal correspondense also.

Now...keep in mind that Polaris may show that there testing shows that this pipe causes issues..then I would show the Pure Polaris catalog where they sell it as an accessory for this sled. Any pipe other than the SLP may hold water for Polaris but they may have shot theirselves in the foot by selling it as an accessory.

I would call Polaris customer relations and use letters and emails whenever possible. File a complaint with your States Attorney Generals consumer affairs division. Contact an attorney. They are on the edge(no pun intended)

It would be very interesting to hear what SLP says about this. I'm sure they don't like the idea of Polaris basically telling potential customers that their product is not suitable for use.
