POLARIS INDUSTRIES…PLEASE READ

I would think this has a pretty good chance of being a recall, if their is indeed as many problems as everyone is saying. Probably end up being a safety recall, and I'd bet all of them will be replaced with a re-designed part, unless they trace a problem with a certain parts run.

I also suspect that the few with belt issues, are related to this/these shaft problems, and it getting too much run-out....

But, it's not gonna be an overnight decision. :face-icon-small-dis

Edit: They can handle some letters from consumers, it's receiving letters from lawyers that they'll want to avoid....

Yep. it stinks, and I can't stand lawyers, but that's often what it takes to get mfg's to address issues. Hopefully Polaris addresses this if it really becomes an issue before it gets to that. I am just hoping Polaris is more responsive to consumers than cat has been. I had a horrible experience with them back in 2009. Hopefully Polaris is better at seeing the big picture.

IMO, give Polaris the opportunity to respond to the issue at hand... which was the intent of tracksvs2wheels original post and his letter to P.I.

Thank you for getting my point...it isn't that there are issues...it's how the company will respond to said issues:yo:

My letter is/was an attempt to help call attention to the matter and hopefully provoke a proactive response from Polaris. If they have in fact pulled the inventory of 2013 shafts, inspected, and found an unacceptable failure rate (as someone has alluded to on these forums) then my job here has been done;) Only thing left is to respond to the results Polaris:face-icon-small-coo

I'm still perplexed trying to figure out why half of MH's posts are a huge font and others are normal:face-icon-small-ton

TV2W I seriously hope all affected get the outcome they deserve. Good on you for writing the letter.

Dave,

I wish... I still pay for all of my Polaris addictions... even though all of my time here as moderator is done on a volunteer basis and I'm in no way compensated by Harris Publishing, Christopher Parrett nor Polaris Industries.

As a moderator, different than being strictly a premium member, I have a responsibility to the readers to try and introduce a level headed views of "heated discussions"

That is true weather the discussion is for an aftermarket product, a OEM offering or just "relationship issues" between our readers.

I've read many of your posts and I believe, sincerely, that you try to do the same thing on the Cat side of the fence.

And I, for one, am very thankful that you are the mod in here Eric! :face-icon-small-hap

Oddly enough back in 2005 I was apparently the only 900 RMK owner with plug fowling issues according to the tech line...........mmmmmmkay!!!!

They dodged a lot of fireballs waiting for warranty to expire.

Calm down. They'll fix it.

The claims have to be sorted out between the real and the drama queens that have no basis other than they bought a sled they cant afford and are freaking out about a rumor they heard. They need to engineer a real solution so the problem is fixed, not compounded. sort out materials and distribution. Its not a button to push. but if the issue is real they will fix it.

Dont beat them up too much or we'll be back to super strong HEAVY, very reliable LOW HP, low risk, no warrantee claim sleds. Instead of pushing the limit of performance.

If it runs... it breaks and especially when you are pushing the limits of performance, weight, etc. If you dont want a performace sled there are plenty of other models.

There are no Polaris Drama Queens.

Next purchase will be used, so it won't be based on a past different sled. Actually I would be better off buying a lathe and just run my nytro motor as long as I can. Snowmobiles are the biggest pieces of crap that people ask 12k for. Seriously, they are all junk these days. I guess it meets our expectations based on few here.

they are all pieces of ****, its all comes down to what color you want.

The only way Polaris will fix all sleds is if they think all shafts will fail. That is why Arctic Cat did not recall the 12 ProClimb because most were fine. Some blew belts, most did not. I beleive Arctic Cat felt it was not worth absorbing the cost of warranting all sleds when it was only a handful that blew belts.

It will be interesting to see how Polaris handles the repairs. Its a shame that more consumers are getting screwed by the OEM sending units out the door that are subpar.

so heres a thought. what happens to your brakes when the shaft fails? now does it become a saftey deal? or is that the belt im thinking of..opps... ether way

I do have some concerns but I will still go out in the back country. When we broke the drive shafts on so many of our 08 XP’s they were rarely near a road or in a convenient location. We were typically in a large ravine or had jumped numerous creeks and crossed open water to get to the location. That meant near impossibility in getting the sled out by towing it. In one instance that meant getting a portable welder back into the location which was a job in itself.
I won’t complain until I have a problem and probably won’t then either, but you only get so many chances to ride each year. The 08 xp is the reason I don’t still ride ski-doo which I had for the 12 years prior.
Warranty is great and useful but does not extend your riding season. On one trip from Alaska to the lower 48 to ride last season I blew up a sled motor. Although I had a different rental sled the next day, it still has a big impact on the fun I had and the time I got to ride.
It will work out and most of us won’t have a problem but I do hope Polaris addressed the issue if it becomes widespread.
I would rather not spend the night 30 miles from the truck in 10 degree weather if I don’t have to.
Rob
