Poachers at Schribers!

Every year since 95 I think how lucky we are to ride Mount Baker, I'm in awe every moment that I'm up there. Yet every year I wonder when they are going to shut us down, since to this point we've been able to co exist with the hikers and more or less followed the rules so there's been no grounds to shut us out. So if you are the ones doing this and can't wait like the rest of us, ruining it for us and our families, you will be hunted down!

I don't get what this thread is about. Did you witness riders in wilderness? If so it is much better to contact them directly or through a private message than post on a public forum. You never know who will read these forums.

they were poaching snow! It just really ticks me off with an area like that which is already under so much scrutiny for snowmobilers and then these *** wipes just disregard the rules.

I think what everyone wants is...specifics!

Who, what and where! Did you see someone riding in the wilderness, or are you referring to people just riding before schriebers was open?

What "rules" we're broken?

did they cross the bridge?
isn't that the only real rule? cannot cross the snow bridge until there is 25" base?

just curious as well as to the extent of the poaching..

24".in Schreibers Meadow..and BAKER is NOT going to be open this weekend, either!!

So what exactly is the rule and who makes the call? Is it posted somewhere. Does the forest service decide?

Here is the official response to our club last week and as you guys know, the conditions still do not meet the rule. As stated many times by others, "Please don't screw it up for everyone." The Northwest Glacier Cruisers have worked very hard at maintaining a good relationship with our Forest Service. We actively police ourselves and others to ensure our area remains open. They will open it as soon as they can ensure that the environment will be protected by adequate snow and an established base. It's in our best interest to be patient.

"The Mt. Baker NRA will stay closed to snowmobiling at least through the Thanksgiving weekend.

The ‘Closed’ signs for snowmobiles & snoparks remain in place on SR 20 at Baker Lake road, Baker Lake road & FS road 12 junction and at the start of FS road 13.

Today a FS engineer found 6” of snow on road #13 at mile 4.2. As a side note he also found a contractors excavator had been taken for a joy ride & left stuck on the fill slope of the access road to NRA snopark #1.

There are four WA Snotel websites around the mountain and the upper two at 4000’ only show 15-16” of snow.
Certainly not a 24” base of snow yet and more rain is as likely as snow for the next few weeks.

Avoid riding in the NRA backcountry for a bit longer until the snow is here to stay for the season. The closed signs will then be pulled ASAP to allow as early an opening to riding as possible. SnoPark signs and maps on the kiosks will also be placed.
As a reminder the minimum of a 24” snow base before riding off road in the NRA is to prevent soil and vegetation damage.

Roads not drivable by wheeled vehicle due to snow depth will need to suffice for now for riders that need to put some break in mileage on their sleds.

Please share this info.

Lets watch the boundaries this year....plenty of legal riding
I have seen guys move the wilderness signs to attempt to shrink our riding areas, so know where you are.
The max fine is $500.....im sure whoever makes those $5000 signs has an agenda.... But regardless, lets not give them any ammo and show them sledders are generally good guys that are therw for the same reasons they are.
