Please post your XP 163 clutch setup

qr2 vs qr5

Well the original dj helix is a qr2 and the new one is a qr5 which according to Joey is a little bit shallower to help hold r's under heavy load. Maybe that is why you haven't noticed any fluctuating rpm's and I have. I plan on running 19-20 grams with the 433's and stock spring, maybe spring down to 130-290.

Hopefully we'll get some pow again so I can try to find the bog you found, kinda been "springy" around here the last couple weeks. What is stamped on your helix? mine says QR5...
Tried the 433 for a short time, bring lots of weight, you might even need the tungsten pin kit to get them to run right. Heard 19-20 grams is a good place to start with them, I tried them with 15g and couldn't go any heavier, they shifted out way too quick, 50mph and tacked out.

433 testing

I posted this in another clutch thread but maybe some have subscribed to this one so here it is...

Just wanted to say thanks to the guys who posted some 433 ramp setups. I picked up a set and ran them for two days but don't think I will continue to use them. Performance is good but temps were up and I actually blew my first belt(166), had 700km on it until now.

08xp 163
433's
blue/green
20.4 grams
dj helix
20/49 gears

I will go back to the purple/pink and 15.5ish grams and stock ramps next ride and compare.

433 Set-up

433 ramps,
Stock secondary
130-230 primary spring
19.6 grams weight
clicker 1
Over reving at 4-6000 feet, clicked clear down and maxed out the medium pin kit. I thought reducing the finishing rate from 290 down to 230 would have cured the over-rev. It did help some. I really like the low engagement and lower rpms on the trail and in the trees, need to get the wide open r's down. Next I will try the tungsten heavy pin kit or over sized rollers to get 23 grams weight. Any suggestions to drop rpms below the rev limiter without messing to much with the bottom-end? Are there ramps very similar to the 433s that will keep the high revs in check? Currently planning to add more weight and if this changes the bottom engagement too much, I will go higher initial rate, maybe 160- 230.

Yep, I've got the QR5 helix. No fluctuation last weekend either, this thing climbs like a billy goat and pulls like no other 800 I've ever rode now. 55 MPH track speed climbing the steep stuff and R's were a lot more consistant from trail to pow. I could actually feel a little something in my forearms from holding on after the ride on Sunday.... about a foot of fresh or maybe a little more most of the day.

Setup as it stands now

20/49 gearing w/ 104 pitch chain
Team pin kit with 15.9 grams of weight
160/350 Primary spring (purple/pink)
Stock 413 ramps
Purple secondary spring (stock)
QR5 helix from dynamoe Joe
377 Belt

Clicker 1 = 0-3000 Feet
Clicker 2 = 3000-6000 Feet
Clicker 3 = 6000-8500 Feet
Clicker 4 = 8500-? (highest I've been 9700 and R's were still good) ~ 10,500
Clicker 5 and 6 Will probably get you to 13-14k so this setup should work well in Colorado too.
Threw some quick clickers on too, man they are slick I would recommend them to anyone who rides lots of different areas with varied elevation, it makes the elevation adustments a snap, clicker changes in about 30 seconds.

I'm running this same setup, minus the gearing. Still running the stock gearing, but with same results. 52-55mph on a climb, and saw 86mph on a groomed trail Sunday at 8500'.

another test

Fernie March 21
6000'
2 feet heavy pow
08xp 163 mbrp can 13.5:1 head
413's
purple/pink
15.9 grams dalton kit
dj helix qr5
20/49 gears
37-43mph climbing
It holds 37 (60km)forever, falls there near the end of a climb when ground speed slows and she starts to auger in and wheelie.
Both clutch setups perform pretty similar in very similar conditions but I never had heat like I did with the 433's. The 413 setup may be slightly better as the snow was more spring-like.

Hit 143km/hr @3000' on the trail. That's 89mph.

Hmmmm. Same setup as Mt_mt_climber, but he's claiming 55mph track speed in the steep, and you're hitting 37? What gives?

adding 433 ramps to Joes cam or a 44/33 int a good idea...unless you run a 160/230 sprig and 22 grams + pin weight...

Joes cam/my cam/ 44/33 are/should be run with stock ramps...

the 433 ramp clutch kit is for the stock secondary set up...IMHO-BJ

thanks

Well you could have said that before I spent a weekend testing the setup and wrecking a belt.

your confused

I'm talking about my sled slim and your thinking about your wifes car. We'd have to duct tape your hands to the bars for you to hit that speed cause your legs would be flapping in the wind out the back.

I'll wait for ya to catch up........................:D[/QUOTE]
