youve got to be ****tin me this is the most retarded thing ive ever heard, no way can people be this stupid. Is there an official report on this anywhere?

So, they want to keep drugs and bad things out of kids lives, but then they want to take AWAY all the things that keep the kids away from them in the first place?! WTF!

I went to my local dealer today. They have pulled everything for kids. Helmets, gear, everything. The bad thing is there are so many interpretations of this and nobody to clarify it. The parts guy said that he tried to order a throttle tube for a customer but since it was also used for a KLX110, Kawasaki has pulled it and will not sell it at this time. With this kind of crap being passed, we will all be required to walk around in bubble suits.

There was a deal about that law on the local news last night, as was the case with a lot of local news around the country, places like Goodwill are being forced to pull clothing, toys, anything that "Might" contain lead. They cannot afford the proper testing equipment to test the product so they are pulling anything that is questionable, which is a LOT of stuff.

This powersports deal is really ridiculous, I thought it would be about the little toys you can buy but for them to jerk these things????? Makes me real fearful for what kind of challenges this industry has coming, not to mention this sport as well as anything most of us on this forum have taken for granted all of our life and live for.

How far can we be pushed??????

This might be there way of killing off the industry. If they haven't ridden by the age of 12 the chances that they will start drops way off. This also includes used sales.

Any info on where they found this bill that was passed? Was it Obama or was this Greenie Congress people? Signed regardless....

I just read that letter on tomself.com and it says this law was signed to law on August 14th. From what I can gather, there is a waiver waiting to be acted on to exempt certain items.

I just sent out countless emails thanking people for their choice in November, guess I should have read the letter first......

Whatever the case, there needs to be some common sense exemptions going with this.

Wikipedia explains the act

Thanks for the find, rep for you.

Quick overview, bill was passed under quick procedures back when China was giving us toys made out of lead blocks, and Congress passed legislation to help mandate the amounts of lead in the products, known as legislation bill HR 4040. Was put into effect back in August of 2008 and Feb. 10, 2009 was the cutoff date to sell items that weren't compliant with meeting the testing requirements and being labeled with the amounts they contain.

So my question after seeing this is what testing is required by powersports manufacturers? Are they currently working to become compliant? How much time did our manufacturers know to have to become complaint? And what is up with all the protective gear not being sold, is that because of the sales of the toys or are they also under this mandate to be tested, I saw zippers and snaps (basically anything put ut that contains metal) on the list could it be because the protective stuff is also in question?

Thanks for the find, rep for you.

Back at ya.

Similar to the EPA regulations on automobiles, they call it baby steps, the Dodge I bought (07.5) is supposed to be 2010 complaint and they were the first to comply. Like I said, I think there is a point to where this is a good thing, but I honestly don't think the powesports industry needs to be impacted the way they are right now. Bicycles will fall under this also, kids under 12 aren't supposed to ride bikes???

Bump this back up to the top how do you get a thread pinned. If there are no vehicles for kids to ride there will be no future to this sport we all enjoy. Signed and sent a letter to all my senators and congressmen. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

yup, TTT.

This is already affecting our sport, if they have pulled safety clothing for kids such as helmets, pads, clothes, etc. it has already impacted us. I will be running to a dealer at lunch and hopefully get more insight from their standoint, then report back...

Signed it and others, the AMA has one on thier web page, it goes to you state senaters. Thumpertalk has a couple ones also. There is talk of a protest day nation wide. washingtons is set for march 13 .
